COMMISSION FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE

27th Annual Law and Justice Day Breakfast by Dorothy Berlandi The Commission for Social Justice of the Order Sons of Italy in Massachusetts held its 27th Annual Law and Justice Day Breakfast on Sunday morning May 2, 2010 at Lombardo’s in Randolph. Vice Chairman Donald McGowan of the Commission for Social Justice called for the commencement of the program. The head table guests were introduced and it was time for the Posting of the Colors. This year the 101st Engineer Battalion (R) from the Massachusetts Army National Guard did the honors. Mr. James Geaney sang the American and Italian National Anthems followed by the Invocation by Reverend Gregory Mercurio, State Chaplain of the Order Sons of Italy. Albert A. DeNapoli Esq., Chairman for the Commission for Social Justice welcomed all and thanked all who had worked so hard to make this breakfast a success. Our Toastmaster for this occasion was Mr. Dan Rea former WBZ-TV news reporter and the current host of NightSide on WBZ News Radio 1030. You may all recall that Mr. Dan Rea was the individual who was responsible

Yet this very sad happening was not soon enough for two of the men that died while in prison. This DVD and the telling of this happening only enforces us to forever be mindful of the injustices that happen daily and the importance of social justice not only in the Order Sons of Italy but throughout the world. The above was a very interesting and appropriate interlude to our program. At this time Ms. Marilyn Pettito Devaney, a member of the Commission for Social Justice presented Mr. Michael A. One of the most significant contributions we make as an organization to our community is through our Scholarship Awards Program. Every year our Charitable & Educational Trust, along with many individual donors provide over $42,000 to approximately 42 graduating high school students who are continuing their education.
