The marsh transforms as summer goes by. In July, we see the eggs in bird nests have hatched and young birds are flying around in the marsh area! Tadpoles have turned into frogs and toads, the water creatures have grown very large now, and we don’t even need magnifying glasses to look at them. Marsh birds such as egrets, herons, swans, osprey and eagles are frequently seen as well as many species of butterflies that are visiting the blooming plants near the water’s edge. Bring your rain boots and long pants. We will use field guides, dip nets, buckets, pans and binoculars to get close to these very special creatures in the marsh. The marsh habitat is filled with new discoveries each day, so come along and find out how special this area of nature can be. Summer Fun! The Verge

Summer is just around the corner! Join us for a student-driven, fun adventure. This program is specifically designed for students in grades 4 - 7 as they grow into responsible teens. This is not your average summer camp…we will spend the first week designing the whole summer - planning what we want to do each week and even how we will spend our budget. What might some of the activities be? Open swim, walks to/around Long Lake, service projects, cooking, relaxation times, table tennis and more! Verge staff will be there to provide guidance for students while promoting and developing independence. Students can arrive between 12 and 1 pm each day, depending on whether or not they would like to bring a lunch and eat with us, or come after lunch. Limited bus transportation is available to this program from select locations listed on page 5 of this brochure. Please call 952-449-8350 if you are interested in this option. At certain times, both on-site and at a few local field trips during the summer, this program will allow students to be outside of the direct supervision of adults. Boundaries and rules will be very clear, and the expectations of students to adhere to them are very high. Abuse of rules, check-in times and set parameters will result in the loss of privileges. For an additional cost, students are welcome to attend the Community Education Friday Field Trips. See details on page 39. Grades 4 - 7 #S6002 #S6003 #S6005 #S6006 #S6007 #S6008 #S6009
