Next we headed further East towards Bruce Rock and a scheduled visit to Kokerbin Rock, Australia’s third largest Monolith. This was a worthwhile sight see. The four of us, all intrepid rock climbers of course, clambered on hands and knees (well, in parts) and reached the mighty peak where we caught some amazing agricultural area views. There’s good picnic and camping facilities out here, so this is one we can keep in mind for another time. Only took us an hour or so to take in the sights and then it was back on the bikes to head into Bruce Rock about 30 kms away for a prearranged lunch at the Roadhouse. We thought Russell was going to leave us at Kokerbin Rock turn off and head back to Perth for his mother’s Birthday celebration, but the lure of a nice lunch, saw him follow us into town.

We passed by Shackleton which looked an interesting place and I noticed the Pub was open and also what looked like a Café. I was sorely tempted to change plan and stop there for lunch but of course we soldiered on to Bruce Rock – the promised land of good Sunday Lunches.

Well talk about about a Sunday Ghost town! –not only was the Roadhouse closed, nothing was open save for a coin- operated petrol bowser. Not even the Pub was open. What a let down, and by this time we’re pretty hungry – especially so Rusty! After a quick ride by all the likely, but closed, eating houses we decided to head for our next stop – Kellerberrin.
