FOUNDATION & FRIENDS IS PUBLISHED BY THE ORLANDO HEALTH FOUNDATION B

© 2014 Orlando Health

DEAR FRIENDS It seems like, with every new issue of Foundation & Friends ,we have great news to share about advancements being made throughout the Orlando Health family that are made possible with your donations and pledges. This issue is no exception. Over the past few months, we have not only been gearing up for the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard®, we also have been celebrating new partnerships and generous gifts that continue to enhance the care our patients and families receive each and every day. At the end of January, our collaboration with UF Health Cancer Center officially kicked off. In addition to that, we announced a partnership with the Cancer Support Community to ensure that patients with cancer and their families receive the support and services they need to face and fight their cancer diagnosis. The level of care we provide to our community continues to be taken to new levels through these great partnerships.

John W. Bozard President Orlando Health Foundation and Arnold Palmer Medical Center Foundation

In the following pages, you will read about some of our exciting upcoming events – Doctor’s Day on March 30, the eighth Annual Spring Swirl on April 5 and our ninth annual ONE NIGHTsm to Celebrate Excellence in Trauma Care on May 4. You will also read about the golf tournaments that collectively raised more than $400,000 at the end of 2013. OFinally, we are pleased to highlight one of our corporate partners, Universal Orlando® Resort, who hosted the 33rd Annual Dick Batchelor Run for the Children earlier this year. Our events generate a large amount of awareness for our programs and services, and it is through contributions that we can further enhance these offerings. The commitment of generous, caring people continues to be critical in delivering on our commitment to provide life-saving care at the highest level from birth through all stages of life. I want to end with an interesting remark from George Burns that I came across the other day. He said, “When you stop giving and offering something to the rest of the world, it’s time to turn out the lights.” I find this ringing true in what we do. What we offer and contribute has a positive impact on our community, but the moment that we stop giving, that void will be felt in even greater ways. Let’s keep making history and keep the lights on for generations to come. Sincerely,

John W. Bozard

Annual CMAA Sunshine Region Charity Golf Tournament Raises More Than $40,000 Funds raised during this event, as well as donations from our sponsors JetBlue and Sysco, benefit the Hewell Kids’ Kidney Center at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. This past September, the Interlachen Country Club served as host for the 18th Annual Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) Sunshine Region Charity Golf Tournament. For the fifth year in a row, event proceeds have supported the Kidney Center at Arnold Palmer Hospital. Every dollar raised for the yearly golf tournament, whether through

player registration or raffle tickets, goes directly to the mission of the Kidney Center. Special thanks to the event’s presenting sponsor, Glenmorangie, whose multi-year commitment has helped raise crucial funds to support the Kidney Center, along with event sponsors, JetBlue and Sysco. We extend our sincere appreciation to the CMAA committee members and volunteers from the UCF Rosen School of Hospitality CMAA Student Chapter for their hard work yearround.

The 2013 event raised $41,000 for the Hewell Kids’ Kidney Center. Pictured above are Dr. Jorge Ramirez, Foundation board member and Pediatric Nephrologist at Arnold Palmer Hospital, Roy Schindele, Director, Sales & Marketing at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge, David Kemp, General Manager of Isleworth Golf & Country Club, Arnold Palmer, Ted Sweeney, Clubhouse Manager at Interlachen Country Club, Chad Phillips, Foundation Vice President and Ray Easler, Foundation board member and Vice President, Hospitality & Operations at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge.

Plans are already underway for the 2014 CMAA tournament, returning to Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge on September 15, 2014. For more information, contact Toni Hurlbert, foundation event representative, at 321.843.2460 or Toni.Hurlbert@orlandohealth.com.

Tommy Bahama Classic Benefits Orlando Health’s Hospitality Homes This past November, Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar at Pointe Orlando hosted the seventh annual Tommy Bahama Caribbean Classic to benefit Orlando Health’s Hospitality Homes – Hubbard House, designed and built as “homesaway-from-home” for families of patients from outside the Orlando area. The Hubbard House and Cynthia C. & William E. Perry Pavilion can help restore a sense of calm during troubled times of illness or injury. The homes have jointly served thousands of families facing the extra burden of finding convenient and affordable temporary lodging in times of crisis. The 2013 event raised more than $36,000 and over the last seven years, the event has raised more

than $167,000. Funds are distributed equally between the Hospitality Homes. We would like to give a special thanks to Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar at Pointe Orlando for making this event possible.

PGA Champions Tee Up with Children and Grandchildren Proceeds from the 2013 PNC Father/Son Challenge golf tournament help 125 local families stay on the right track. PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. recently presented a check for $300,000 to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children as part of the company’s sponsorship of the PNC Father/ Son Challenge, a family-oriented golf championship event held at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club®, Orlando Grande Lakes. The tournament, which took place December 12-15, brought together a 20-player field of golf legends paired with their children — and some even with their grandchildren — to benefit Healthy Families Orange, a program of The Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families. The Howard Phillips Center, part of Arnold Palmer Hospital, provides dignity and healing for children, families and individuals who face overwhelming challenges such as child abuse, sexual trauma, developmental disabilities and lack of access to medical care. Healthy Families Orange, based on the nation’s foremost model for child abuse prevention, has been phenomenally successful in preventing child abuse and neglect in target communities in Orange County. With a focus on giving kids a healthy, safe head start, Healthy Families Orange is a perfect match for this tournament that highlights the importance of family.

Good People and Good Golf Come Together for a Great Cause Proceeds from the 14th annual December Classic benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. The December Classic, hosted by Rich Lerner, has raised more than $1.2 million for charities in its first 13 years. During the event’s 14th year, it once again supported the expansion of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Winnie Palmer Hospital, raising vital funds to meet the needs of our community.

Golf Channel’s Gary Williams and Hall of Fame golfer Nick Faldo join a group of supporters from New York and New Jersey – Peter Lynch, Jared Wolovnick, Ben Heller, and Ian Rintel.

The annual tradition was back in full swing on December 7-9, 2013, with some of golf’s biggest names on some of Orlando’s finest golf courses. This year, The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club® Orlando, Grande Lakes was added to the mix, while keeping the tradition of Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge and ChampionsGate, to create a unique weekend experience. Alongside a caring community, the event raised $110,000, a cumulative four-year total of $300,000, all dedicated to the NICU expansion. The NICU offers the highest level of care for high-risk newborns, consistently demonstrating the best outcome statistics in the state, but the need for expansion is crucial in order to meet the growing need.

Arnold Palmer, Joe Meterchick, Regional President – Florida West of PNC Bank, Alexis Dean, a Parent Leader in Healthy Families Orange and Kathy Swanson, President, Arnold Palmer Medical Center, celebrate another successful PNC Father/Son Challenge golf tournament.

to families impacted by child abuse and neglect, childhood developmental delays and disabilities, risk factors related to parenting and lack of access to medical care for low-income teens. This event was the second opportunity that ay of the nearly 150 attendees had to learn about the work of The Howard Phillips Center. Before “hearing the story,” they were given the opportunity to “See the Story” on a mission-based tour that laid the groundwork for what they would hear at the event. Others who are interested in learning more about the incredible work taking place at The Howard Phillips Center now have the opportunity to attend a “See the Story” tour, which is offered on the first and third Tuesdays each month. If you are interested in signing up for a tour, please contact Amy Drury at 321.841.8285 or amy. drury@orlandohealth.com.

Featuring an emotionally charged video and personal testimonials from families who have been helped, the “Hear the Story” event raised more than $195,000 in cash and pledges for The Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families. The breakfast provided an opportunity for The Howard Phillips Center’s Community Leadership Council, led by Bobby Bridges, to showcase the lifechanging work that continues to positively impact thousands of children and families in our community every year. Through six core programs, The Howard Phillips Center, supported by the Arnold Palmer Medical Center Foundation, provides vital services
