The Walla Walla YMCA is dedicated to the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility and committed to building a community where all people, especially the young, are encouraged to develop their fullest potential in spirit, mind, and body.

Join the Y!

When you join the Y, you’re coming together with men, women and children from the Walla Walla Valley who are committed to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We know firsthand how difficult it can be to find balance in life. That is why we’re here with you every day, making sure that you, your family and your community have the resources and support needed to learn, grow and thrive. With the Y, you can be assured that any activity in which you, your family or your child engages – from child care to family swim to sports to camp – you’ll have a safe, positive environment to play and to discover. We are a community with the everyday mission of helping you achieve a balance of spirit, mind and body. We do that by encouraging good health habits and fostering connections with new and old friends through sports, fun and shared interests.

aqua aerobics

Move to upbeat music as you work with water’s consistent resistance. This helps shape and tone your body, as well as keep your heart rate up. Water exercises also develop cardiovascular endurance and help work your muscles without punishing joints and bones.

aqua yoga

Move the flow of yoga right into the flow of water. With aquatic yoga poses, the water can act as resistance, creating additional intensity for your workout, or it can support you, keeping pressure off of your joints. The Aquatic Exercise Association emphasizes that water classes are especially beneficial for people with arthritis, diabetes, osteoporosis, back problems and pregnant women.

water workout/fit forever

Water exercises force the body to continuously move to maintain balance and your head above water. Moving in water engages more muscle fibers because of the water’s consistent resistance. This helps shape and tone your body, as well as keep your heart rate up. Water exercises also develop cardiovascular endurance and help work your muscles without punishing joints and bones. This workout is for members who want a challenging water workout.

warm group

Gentle fitness moves in the water to improve mobility and strength.

yoga for you

Clint Rehn

Walla Walla YMCA Member and R.I.P.P.E.D.™ participant Before R.I.P.P.E.D. I had open heart surgery when I was 54 years old and when I was 63 my doctor said that I had Type 2 Diabetes and prescribed Metformin to help control my blood sugar. My doctor encouraged me to join the YMCA and participate in an “On the Edge Program” for people with Diabetes. It was a beginning exercise and dietary program. I started the On the Edge program in January, 2011 at 213 lbs.(5’5”). I then started a Power Pump class in October, 2011, twice a week and my conditioning continued to improve and my weight was slowly coming down. In October, 2012 I worked up enough nerve to participate in a R.I.P.P.E.D class. The class knocked my socks off! I walked out of the class amazed that I was in good enough conditioning to survive such a challenging workout. In the beginning I kept thinking, “This is crazyI’m to old for this intensity”! However, my doctor has given me clearance and said I am in much better shape than when I started going to him 15 years ago. Also, our Head R.I.P.P.E.D. instructor, Leslie Snyder has reminded me that “No one is too old to exercise.” I started the R.I.P.P.E.D. Challenge at 191 lbs. And I am down to 181 lbs. Also, as my weight has come down and my conditioning has improved along with my improved R.I.P.P.P.E.D. diet, my AC1 blood sugar has lowered to a point that I will soon be able to stop taking the Metformin prescription. I am grateful to the R.I.P.P.E.D. program and the excellent instructors at our YMCA in Walla Walla, Washington. I truly feel like a new man.
