Jackie Seawell General Manager 641-0350

We all hope that you and your family are enjoying the summer, whether you are vacationing to the beach or simply at home here at Houndslake. Please make plans to join us for the many activities scheduled for the month of July. The Fourth of July gives us the opportunity to celebrate our country’s independence. We will host a cookout on the lawn outside the Pub from Noon until 2:00pm. Hotdogs, pulled pork sandwiches, and drinks will be served. There is no need to sign up. We will also have a Flag Golf Tournament. All Members, including ladies, men, and juniors are eligible and will receive 100% of their handicap. The entry fee is $5. On Friday, July 12th we will keep the pool open late for the entire family to enjoy a Night Swim. There will be music and pool games set up for fun. On Friday, July 19th we will have a Dive In Movie. The big screen movie will be family friendly and starts at 8:30pm. You may place your movie vote when you make your reservation. Bring your own drinks and we will provide the popcorn. Let the lifeguards know if you plan to attend either event. Our summer Member/Member or Member/Guest will be held Friday, July 19th (optional practice round and pari-mutuel party), Saturday, July 20th (round 1), and Sunday, July 21st (round 2). The $25 entry fee includes the Sunday afternoon Awards Luncheon and one $5 share for your team. Happy hour prices will be available at the pari-mutuel party bar on Friday. Special dinner menus will be available in the Dining Room on Friday and Saturday night. Our intent is to provide the Members of Houndslake with as many activities as possible to enjoy. In addition to the events highlighted, we will continue with our Family Buffet Night, Sunday Brunch, Wednesday’s Ladies’ Night, Couples Twilight League, Sunday Family Golf Day, Ladies’ Golf Clinics, Tennis Mixers, and Burger Night, just to name a few. We hope that you choose Houndslake for your family and friend gatherings. Lastly, I would like to personally thank everyone who attended our Member Appreciation Luau with Palmetto Groove. This celebration gave the staff the opportunity to show our appreciation for your continuous support of the Club. I hope that all of you had as good of a time as Claire and I. Our plans include to have more of these fun parties throughout the year. We all feel extremely fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful Club. Sincerely, Jackie & Daniel General Managers

The Houndslake Ladies 9-Hole Golf Association continues to play over the summer on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 AM. It’s a casual game and we usually meet for lunch in the Grill Room afterwards. Play is from either the red or pink tees. If you’re looking for a group to play with on a regular basis, or just now and then, we invite you to join us. Sign up in the locker room, or come to the Golf Shop around 9:30 AM on Wednesdays. Our regular season begins in September. For more information call Judy Clements at 803-642-5117.

Winners for June 5, 2013

Bob Penland invited some ladies to help start our club in 1993. Happy Twentieth Birthday Houndslake Garden Club!

Contract Bridge is on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month, for information on joining contact Alice Kierspe: 803.649.5623

We are a non-federated club and open to all Members of Houndslake Country Club. If you are already a Member of a federated club, you can join this one without any conflict. We have several Members who do this to take advantage of our programs and to socialize with other Houndslake Members. We meet September through May on the third Friday (changed only at Christmas if the meeting falls too close to the holiday). If you know a bit about gardening and want to learn more, you’ll fit right in – if you know nothing and want to find out what others know, you’ll fit right in – if you know a lot and want to share what you know, you’ll fit right in. You see we are an eclectic group! We meet in the Dogwood Room and have an informal meeting. Our programs consist of a mixture of guest speakers, one fund raising bazaar, Christmas and end of year luncheons, along with a few interesting field trips. The idea is to enjoy learning and sharing. We also work on the Carolina Garden that you see when you come to the Club entrance from the parking area. As a group we decorate the entrances to Houndslake Country Club for Christmas. Another of our contributions was the “H” Garden on Houndslake Drive – this is now maintained by Jeff Gattis and the Maintenance crew. We also enjoy their help from time to time on the Carolina Garden.

If you would like to get to know really nice ladies and participate in some local community activities while learning and socializing this is the one to look at. We intend to make this a special year, after all it’s our birthday. Call Jane Rordam at 648-5137 with any questions
