Sports Trade mission Doha, Qatar 24 - 29 March 2019

Sharing expertise and knowledge to realise Qatar’s ambitions

Words of Welcome It is an honor and pleasure to welcome the Dutch sports trade mission to Qatar on March 25-28, 2019. A vast network of innovative Dutch companies are keen to be Qatar’s partner in sports development. The mission is an excellent opportunity to enhance the vibrant and growing ties between Qatar and the Netherlands. The Netherlands and Qatar share an immense passion for sports. Everybody knows that at a sport event, you’ve seen the Dutch when you see a crowd in “orange” cheering their team. We, the Dutch, are thrilled to have our football legends Wesley Sneijder and Nigel de Jong playing in the Qatar Stars League. We are proud that the Dutch Football Club PSV Eindhoven was in Doha from 4-12 January 2019 for their winter training. Recently, the Qatar and Royal Dutch Football Associations signed a Memorandum of Understanding. It demonstrates the strong commitment of the Netherlands to enthusiastically work with Qatar towards a more vibrant and diverse sports sector. The development of female football features prominently in this MoU. In collaboration with the Qatar Women’s Sport Committee, former international players of the Dutch national female and male football teams provide top class training to a group of enthusiastic women to become successful football coaches. It is exciting to see how female football is gaining popularity and changing perceptions. Like in the Netherlands, when our national women’s football team won the European Cup and qualified itself for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup in France this year. After Qatar’s historic win of the Asian Cup, I hope that Qatar’s female football team can achieve a similar kind of success one day. It is impressive how Qatar has grown into a major sports hub. Athletes from the world of cycling, swimming, boxing, tennis, handball, beach volleyball, football, gymnastics, athletics, and showjumping flock to Qatar for their trainings and international competition. Qatar offers excellent sporting facilities, including Aspire Academy and Aspetar for sportsrelated injuries.

Dr. Bahia Tahzib-Lie H.E. Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the State of Qatar

2

Mrs. Bahia Tahzib-Lie

The Dutch Embassy looks forward to the FIFA World Cup in 2022 in Qatar – the first-ever in the Middle East. With less than four years to go, Qatar is working hard towards its success and overcoming the obstacles that lie in its way. We hope that this mega sport event will leave a lasting positive legacy for Qatar, the Middle East region, and the world.

Foreword It is a great honour to be leading this trade mission to the State of Qatar. I am proud to be joined by a business delegation consisting of more than 15 companies and knowledge institutes with wide-ranging knowledge of and expertise in sport, health, innovation, leisure and entertainment. The State of Qatar is an important partner of the Netherlands. We have strong and multifaceted economic relations and are keen to broaden and deepen our ties, making use of complimentary knowledge and expertise and our commitment to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. Qatar has experienced strong economic growth throughout the past decade. Significant investments in the lead up to the FIFA Football World Cup 2022 will ensure economic growth in the years to come. The Netherlands and Qatar already work together on issues of food security, energy, water management, health care and logistics. An example is the ‘Healthy Food, Healthy Lifestyle’ initiative that involves Dutch companies contributing to ensuring a healthier next generation. The Netherlands and Qatar both share a passion for sport and innovation, which offers ample room for cooperation in the lead up to the World Cup 2022. For participants that are already active on the Qatari market, this visit represents an opportunity to expand their network. For others, the mission offers an excellent initial introduction to Qatar and potential Qatari partners. I would like to wish all participants an inspiring and successful trade mission.
