A “Feast of Nations” St Paul’s Shepparton’s theme for the Longest Lutheran Lunch was “Feast of Nations”. “Indulge in the taste of home from Burundi, DR Congo, South Sudan, Germany, USA and Australia”, was our call, and it was heard. The church was bulging at the seams with standing room only as we gathered to hear the clearly proclaimed message that binds our diverse community together – that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Alongside the sandwiches, quiche and sausage rolls was sauerkraut, braten kartoffel, bratwurst, Chilli Concarne, Sweet shredded BBQ Pork, beans & bacon, ugali, cassava leaf with goat, moambe, spiced lamb skewers, kissra, combu (beef, peanut & spinach), and many other exotic dishes that I have no name for. Lamingtons, chocolate cake, ambrosia, stollen, lebkuchen, pfeffernusse, mondasi and quin finished the meal off in style. It was indeed a taste sensation! Many had their first taste of other nations’ food and all were adventurous by trying new things. We are truly blessed to have such a diverse community.
