The

Wellness Belt

How An Incredible Canadian Invention Came to Be Doctors Craig and Elda Curphey practiced together in Canada and noticed a very high percentage of their patients had degrading physical conditions due to insufficient activity levels. In most cases, they recommended an increase in weight-bearing exercise as part of a rehabilitative approach.

owever, only about 1 in 10 patients would actually join a fitness facility or start an exercise program. Why? They gave 3 main reasons: No time. Negative attitude towards exercise. Too Expensive. There were also an alarming number of women visiting their office over the age of 30 who were on osteoporosis medications such as hormone replacement therapy, or bisphosphonate drugs such as Actonel or Fosamax. Most were uninformed about the lower effectiveness and the highly worrisome side effects of these medications. Again, the Curpheys encouraged the women to perform weight-bearing exercise as a much more effective and safer alternative, but the same reasons were given for non-performance. 32 www.onthego.to

They wanted the convenience of pills, so even with the awareness of very dangerous side effects they chose to believe, “It can’t happen to me.” Women have stroked and passed away while on these meds, so it does happen and it deeply affects the families involved. Studies conducted by Dr. Christine Snow at the University of Oregon conclude that weightbearing exercise significantly increases an individual’s ability to prevent hip fractures and strengthen their bones preventing and even reversing osteoporosis. It also suggested that “wearing” external weight, such as a weighted vest, during the performance of normal everyday activities produces the same benefits as working out at the gym. There are major drawbacks with weighted vests, however, that make them undesirable for use every day. People would only consider

wearing an external weighted device if it was convenient and attractive so the idea of a vest was transformed into a weighted belt instead. During prototyping, patients reported loss of inches, increased energy and endurance, and those who had bone density scans done reported only increases. The most astonishing feedback however, was from chronic back pain patients reporting that their spine problems had simply gone away! Sounds too good to be true? Don’t be surprised — these results are simply what happens when you correct your posture and increase your activity. Wear the Wellness Belt and begin enjoying all the benefits personally. That little change will not only change your life, it can SAVE your life!
