unique to Phuket also significantly seasons the culinary journey, setting it apart from other regional provinces. Nearly two centuries ago, Peranakan Chinese immigrated across the region to what is now Phuket. They had come to the island to work in the rubber and mining industries, and would eventually establish a tight-knit community, who would later be colloquially referred to as Baba Yaya (Phuket Baba). They infused into Phuket culture, with their influences heavily scattered throughout and seen elements of local architecture, food, and local island culture.
