The Best KOA Rules Anywhere! • The “Sound of Silence” is what you’ll hear during our quiet hours of 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. All RV sites have electricity, so generators are never allowed. No air compressors are allowed during quiet time. • You can stay as late as you want, but after 10:59 am, it’ll cost you for an extra night because our checkout time is 11:00 am. • Please do not service your RV or vehicle here. It’s noisy, messy and our dog keeps answering to “Dammit.” • No one likes to be around a leaky, stinky sewer. That’s probably why the “sewer cops” require that your sewer hose must be connected to our sewer. Sewer connectors such as rubber “donuts” and plastic “croissants” (elbows) are available at the Camp Store. • Companion critters must be kept on a leash when outside your rig or tent. Please do not leave your pet unattended. Pets are not allowed in the Campground buildings, playground or the picnic/barbecue areas. Two-legged guests are responsible for picking up all residue left by their four-legged companions. “Doggie Pot” bags are available for free at the pet walk. • Open campfires, fireworks and firearms may be set off inside your RV or tent only! Outdoor fires are permitted in barbecue grills only (yours or ours). • The piles of black stuff are really lava rocks and not asphalt dumped by the highway department, even though the highway department has been known to dump piles of asphalt. Please don’t take our rocks home. Our rocks already have a home. • Please don’t hang anything from our poor, helpless trees. Violators will be hung from our poor, helpless trees! • You may only wash your RV or car if it will fit in your own sink. It’s okay to wipe the bugs off your windshield, but don’t use a hose. 2

Points of Interest in the Area • Your 1st day will be a cultural experience. Acoma Sky City is the

oldest continually inhabited community in the United States. See their newly constructed Cultural Center, then take the tour of the Acoma heritage site atop a lofty mesa with an Acoma guide and get their story of life and history.

• Day 2 is best at El Morro National Monument and the El Malpais.

See petroglyphs by ancestral Puebloans, inscriptions by Spanish explorers in the 1600s, and later the American Army at El Morro. Then stop at the Ice Cave and El Malpais Monument, where you can walk among the lava flows and other geological features that are older than dirt. Photography, sightseeing and wildlife scenic opportunities abound. Then, return to the KOA for relaxation in the cool desert evening.

• The next day trip begins at the New Mexico Mining Museum in

Grants for a self-guided tour of a simulated uranium mine. Then it’s off to El Malpais Visitor Center before exploring the eastern edge of El Malpais, where lava flowed up to sandstone bluffs. You can see much with a short walk from your car. For the more adventurous, there are trails into El Malpais Conservation Area.

• Then on the 4th day, it’s Chaco Canyon. You will need all day at

least for Chaco Canyon, 80 miles north of Grants KOA. Your first stop should be the Visitor Center, with a museum, information desk, and gift shop, then 9 miles of paved road loop through five major Chacoan sites, the largest being ancient pueblo sites in the southwest.
