Welcome

un times F await in 2017! In his ancient Bigfoot language, Forrester Bigolopagus often says, “Astoria KOA is the perfect place for fun, food and adventure in the Pacific Northwest.” He should know. Our most-famous camper has visited for years. Other guests agree that our KOA provides an exceptional camping experience. Our team is committed to making your stay a memorable one. In my six years as general manager, I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited about the year ahead. Our special themes have never been more special, highlighted by our “Record-Breaking Year” events that will put us in the global record book for campgrounds. Our themed weekends are carefully planned to deliver maximum enjoyment for camping families and groups of all sizes.

Your essential guide We hope you’ll use this guide to explore the campground and the local area, locate our activities and amenities, and save money with the valuable coupons you’ll find inside. We’ve packed a lot of information in our guide, including a map of our KOA resort, a list of TV and radio channels, details on our revamped Fun Zone and food offerings. There’s also a map of the region with numbers locating businesses of interest to many visitors.

Activities galore We’ve added even more activities this year. GaGa Ball, disc golf and the world’s largest white board debut in 2017. Our outdoor pool, Gem Mining Experience and nine-hole Pirate’s Cove Mini Golf Course are other recent additions that have become popular spots. With now more than 40 self-directed activities for campers to enjoy, our KOA may well set a world’s record for the funnest campground ever.

We hope you enjoy your stay! Dale Brechlin General Manager Astoria/ Warrenton/ Seaside KOA Resort

History at

BIGFOOT Trivia What celebrities claimed to believe in bigfoot? • Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt • Mark Twain • Jimmy Stewart • Matt LeBlanc

the legend of forrester bigolopagus Some people say Bigfoot doesn’t exist … but we know better at Astoria/Warrenton/ Seaside KOA Resort! Forrester Bigolopagus isn’t like every other Bigfoot spotted in these parts. Oh yes, he is 8 hairy feet tall, 650 pounds, has huge feet and doesn’t smell very good, but we love him!

Babe in the woods Forrester was born in the forest in a nest made of twigs, branches and pine needles right next to the Columbia River. He was an ugly baby with a face only a mother could love. When he was about 10 years old, she dropped him off at our KOA. She knew that we would take good care of him. When we hear his thunderous footsteps, we know he’s coming to find us to give him lunch. He loves to eat salad, apples, peanut butter, bacon, donuts, bagels and raw liver… yuck! He sometimes visits Iredale’s Wheelhouse Café on a Sunday morning for a HUGE stack of yummy pancakes.

Big feet, of course! His footprints are so big that the rain collects in them and forms mud puddles. Go ahead, put on your boots and raincoat and splash in them! Then take a trip over to the beach and check out the Peter Iredale shipwreck. If the tide is out, you can splash around there, too. Forrester can see at night. That’s why he has big eyes. His arms are longer than the rest of his body, which makes him really good at giving hugs.

Shy but huggable But he can be very shy and might run away, so you will have to watch for him to get a free hug. Maybe he would like a s’more, so make sure you make an extra one! His favorite pastime is throwing rocks, so watch out if you see one coming your way. You’d better duck! He runs fast and you may never see or catch him running through Fort Stevens State Park. Whenever you visit us, be on the lookout for Forrester. He’s just waiting to say hello!

we love to serve

For years, our KOA has been a big supporter of the many groups and events that make this such a special community.

We help sponsor the annual Color the Coast for Autism 5K Run/Fun for The Autism Society of Oregon. We support many other community events, such as the Festival of Trees, Adopt a Family for Christmas and the Hood to Coast Relay. Each year, our KOA Care Camps Big Weekend helps raise funds to send kids with cancer to medically-supervised camps across North America. Funds support the KOA Care Camps Trust, which distributes more than $1 million annually to support over 125 Care Camps each year. Learn more at koacarecamps.org.

we’re thinking

green

It’s hard not to think green when you visit the Astoria/Warrenton/ Seaside KOA Resort. We’re surrounded by gorgeous green trees, bushes and grasses and Oregon’s beautiful landscape. We’re dedicated to keeping our KOA as green and beautiful as it can be. That’s why we have conveniently located recycling bins

for our guests’ use throughout the park. In 2009, we even took it one step further, installing efficiency lighting throughout our campground. By doing our part to keep the environment clean, our KOA will continue to be a beautiful home away from home for you and your family for many years to come.

HISTORIC FORT CLATSOP The reconstruction of Fort Clatsop stands on the site of the original fort built by the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1805. History comes alive here each summer when National Park Service rangers, dressed in period buckskins, recreate life in the past by making tallow candles, dressing elk skins, building furniture and performing many other activities.

Attractions

There’s no better place to stop, rest and enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The Astoria/Warrenton/ Seaside KOA Resort has all the amenities and activities to make your stay memorable. You’ll never want to leave!

Local

PLACES To SEE, THINGS TO DO

FISHING ADVENTURES FOR YOU Astoria is one of the best fishing destinations in the world. Here you can experience deep-sea or river fishing with an experienced local guide and hook into a prized tuna, salmon or halibut. Most fishing-charter skippers will sell one-day fishing licenses to customers. If you book a charter, you’ll want to bring a lunch, snacks and drinks. Don’t forget your camera, rain gear, sunscreen, motion sickness pills and a cooler to store your fish for the ride home. Every year, the area features five runs of salmon, including Chinook, Coho, Silver and King varieties. Up to 2 million salmon will make their way into the Columbia River during the months of August and September alone. These waters also deliver great sturgeon, tuna, halibut and crabs. Most charters cater to novice and experienced fishermen and women. The skippers and crews are helpful and full of fishing advice.

ON TOP OF THE WORLD After climbing 164 steps to the top of the Astoria Column on Coxcomb Hill, you’ll have amazing views of the area. Built in 1926, the column is covered with 14 scenes depicting Pacific Northwest history. It is open from dawn to dusk every day.

Top 5 Opportunities To Improve Your Camping Experience 1 Leave no trace Please enjoy the mosquitos and Rocky the Raccoon, leave only footprints and take only pictures home. Our trees and shrubs are still growing and depend on the green growth to help them mature to a ripe old age.

2 Make a long-term friend Meet your neighbors and enjoy the good times to be had. Remind the little ones it’s good etiquette to walk around others enjoying their campsites, not through.

3 The need for speed Please travel our roads at a speed SLOW enough for kids and dogs to share the space safely.

Ediquette

The delights of camping offer you the great outdoors, freedom from the routine and the incredible job of sleeping as one with nature. However, without appropriate campground etiquette, the campground experience can be one of noise, dust and invasion by thoughtless acts.

CAMPGROUND

CAMPGROUND ETIQUETTE

4 Fido’s rights Dogs are part of the family, so please allow them to partake in your events. When necessary, explain to them their responsibility to keep your abode secure and quiet. They enjoy soft music and air conditioning in your short absence and will really appreciate a treat when you return.

5 One man’s trash is not always another man’s treasure

Please remove from around the campfire ring the special items left that you created while you were making wonderful memories. Most birds and worms have a hard enough time navigating around the twigs and leaves that Mother Nature creates. We would like to help them get home safely. Thanks for participating in another fantastic KOA vacation and remember to let The Big Guy know how your experience was! Thanks, Dale (The Big Guy) General Manager
