I made a choice to start working with young adults and children. I have established my own business One Step To Life. My main objective is to motivate others to speak up and be accounted for. I am a motivational speaker for positive non-violent events and I have been involved in many activities to encourage and strengthen the minds of our youth in the city of Youngstown. My dream today is to reach out and give back through all my experiences through life. I want to be involved in the vision for the City of Youngstown. The 20th Century has brought about difficult times in which our children need direction and need to learn the importance of education and life choices. The School Levy is important to me because the children of this day and age matter. It’s a need for our children to be educated and well conversed under the laws of education and how could that be done without the financial funds to govern our children. Throughout my life and in my community I have touched the lives of young children by inspiring them to stay in school, say no to drugs, become leaders, and prepare for life after graduation. Today, I stand on humble ground doing what I love, helping others. I am sincere and confident in what I do. As I walk this path, I focus only on a positive safe haven for our children. We are in drastic times and we need to take drastic measures. I am that drastic measure.

Let me share with you the story of Adrienne Ethridge, a 1984 South High Graduate, the older sister of Laurence Ethridge, Class of 1985. Adrienne & her 7 children lost everything in a bad house fire. There was not a lot of news coverage on the fire. No one was at home or hurt. She is just back from Iraq and divorced. She was in the process of transferring her grandparent’s house out of probate on Carol Street for her and her children. We would like to get this information out to all Warriors to help in ANY way that you can. Listed below is all of her contact info. You can call or e-mail her to find out what she needs or send any contributions to the PO Box. Those who are able to, PLEASE help in any way that you can. Nothing is too small. Today, you can make an immediate difference in the lives of the Ethridge Family. Adrienne cell: 330-398-1548 Adrienne PO Box: Box 432 Youngstown, Ohio 44501 Adrienne e-mail:

One Step To Life NEW LIFE I have a life threatening problem that once had me‌I now take charge of my life, I accept my responsibility. Negative thoughts destroy only myself, my first conscious act must be, to remove negativity from my life..Happiness is a habit I will develop, its created and not wanted for‌problems bother me only to the degree I permit them to, I now better understand my problems and do not permit problems to overwhelm me. I am what I think; I am a capable, competent, caring, compassionate black woman. Love can change the course of my world, caring becomes all important. The past is gone forever, no longer will I be victimized by the past, I am a new person. Enthusiasm is my daily exercise. I treasure all moments of my new life. One Step To Life Finding Support Hey I realize that life could be hard and doing it by yourself is that much harder, but you must keep the faith. Anything worth having is worth fighting for. Maybe it’s God’s will for you to put forth the effort for you to have a better understanding about your own life. There are some that will tell you they have your back but you never see them step up to the plate. Why should we have to work off of someone else’s time when we can take charge of our own life. Stop and think for a moment how much further you could have been if you would have done it yourself. A lot of people say they have gotten as far as they have and became successful accomplishing things ALONE. Find support from God and within yourself. Stay focused on YOUR dreams, because you are the only one that has a vision for your future. Realize people and loved ones will let you down, not because they don’t care, it’s because they don’t share the same outlook on life as you do. Believe it that the same things you are going through, they are too, and to be truthful it’s time to stand up for your self because if you don’t have no one you do have GOD. So stop and believe in yourself because you are worth so much more.

One Step To Life JOBS This is what I don’t understand so many people say they want a job, but as soon as they get a job they stop going to work or they are always late. Next thing you know they are fired. You tell me…? Is it something wrong with that, yes it is. We need to have more responsibility. Listen, lets realize something here….. …… Jobs do not just jump up and say we are going to hire you, you need to remember that we live in Youngstown, Ohio and the jobs and the poverty level is at an all time low. We need to maintain what little respect that we have for ourself and put things in better perspective. And you wonder why the business owners that are in a position to hire the minorities don’t hire us because of the immature things that we do. So basically all I’m trying to say is keep your job until you can find something better that’s going to be beneficial for you and your family. The opportunity to provide for your family is your best opportunity. You have to build a resume for yourself, showing what your primary goal is and what you have to offer, any experience that you may have even if its volunteer work…put it down, develop good business relationships with your employer so you can have a references later on. And prove that you have what it takes to be responsible not just to your family and the people you work for BUT ALSO to yourself because you already know, you owe it to yourself.

One Step To Life The Misconception of the Streets What I’ve been struggling with for the past 25 years of my life is that THE STREETS are not what it seems to be, as a matter of fact, the streets can get you killed if you are not careful of your own perception of life. Now let me break this down to you, I was just under 20 years old, maybe 14, 15 and I thought that I was a young hustla. I thought I knew everything but what it boiled down to was understanding what I needed to know in school. #1…….I couldn’t comprehend that the education should have been first in my life. #2……..I couldn’t read or write and #3……..I couldn’t understand what the EDUCATION PART was meant to do for ME. But I was good at several other things, I was good at running track, football, basketball, smoking weed, drinking and at that time I wasn’t a virgin and I thought I was good at having sex, I was the big man on campus pro se. I knew more than what my parents knew and I knew more than what the adults knew and that is what led me down that long dark road. At the age of 42, I am still recovering from all my choices that I made when I was 15 years old. Now check this out, you might be reading this magazine saying naw, that will never be me, that won’t happen to me, I’m focused, I’m going what I have to do, I’m just drinkin a little, I’m just smokin a little, I just pop pills every now and then and it won’t stop me from doing what I have to do. But for real, for real how many of you are out there just forgot to feed yo kids, just lost ya keys, just went in ya mom purse stole $50?? Believe it or not, the streets have its way of breaking you down to nothing. It’s a struggle and you must overcome it, you must identify what your problem is. So if your problems is drinking, smoking, robbing, stealing, killing or you just want to be cool, what about picking up a book and telling yourself I’m ready to learn and take this step that will solidify me and open doors to making me a successful human being. Even though I had two parents in the household, my household was still dysfunctional. And the reason why that was because my mom and father always worked and they never had enough time to give me the knowledge and the teaching that I needed to be honest, I needed my father to show me how to be a real man more than anything in the world. But I believe that my father showed me what he knew how to be because he worked all the time, he kept the bills paid, kept clothes on our backs and he thought that was cool enough because that’s all he knew and the fact of the matter is it hurt me because of the things that was left out in between and that was how to be a young man growing into a man. Not to say that I already didn’t know, but when I became a father it just became that much harder to understand what my responsibilities were as a man, I just didn’t know how to be a father, so I will leave u with a thought. In order to take inventory or have a perception of what things should be, take time out to ask someone because the only thing that can cause you to be a failure is a failure that doesn’t ask.
