JANSEN VAN STADEN documentary & freelance photographer pretoria, south africa

Residing in Pretoria, Jansen van Staden loves photography and sometimes hides behind his camera to avoid talking, opting instead to take photos. Jansen is hooked on documenting and takes his camera everywhere he goes. Some of his inspirations include Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eugene W. Smith and James Nachtwey. Jansen has a strong desire to receive assignments on foreign issues and to travel to foreign places: to be a voice for the less fortunate. He shoots in colour digital and then converts almost everything to black and white. This passion for black and white photography stems from something he read that suggested the medium is further removed from reality than colour. If he could afford to, he would only shoot on film. He enjoys photography too much to exclude himself from its many different approaches and applications, and strives to be able to shoot any subject matter. Jansen van Staden studied for one year at the National College of Photography, doing his whole course on film, and he is looking forward to learning more about this wonderful communication tool we call photography.
