As  I  was  flipping  through  the  channels  I  landed  on  an  episode  of  America’s  Next  Top  Model.    I  must  admit  I’m  not  a  fan  of  the  show.    However,  this   particular  episode  caught  my  attention.    The  contestants  were  given  the  challenged  of  walking  down  a  runway  staged  with  two  giant  swinging  pendulums.   As  one  contestant  by  the  name  of  Alexandra  Underwood  prepared  to  step  onto  the  runway  the  unthinkable  was  about  to  happen.    She  didn’t  fall  once  on   national  television,  she  fell  twice.    The  second  time  being  completely  knocked  off  the  runway  by  one  of  the  swinging  pendulums. I  can  remember  standing  in  front  of  my  television  saying,  “Oh  my  goodness.”    With  my  eyes  glued  to  the  TV,  I  watched  as  this  fallen  young  lady  gathered   her  composure.  Then  she  climbed  back  onto  the  runway  and  completed  the  task.    This  chic  strutted  her  stuff  right  off  that  stage  as  if  she  didn’t  just  fall  twice   on  national  TV.    I’m  now  standing  in  front  of  my  television  saying,  “Oh  no  she  didn’t.”  I  loved  it!    What  an  incredible  lesson  for  you  and  I  to  learn  from  this   young  lady.    A  fall  doesn’t  have  to  be  your  finale.  Not  if  you’re  willing  to  do  what  she  did,  RECOVER!   Alexandra  made  a  remarkable  recovery.  Not  only  did  she  manage  to  recover,  but  she  went  on  to  become  one  of  the  final  four  contestants.  She  didn’t  let  her   falls  become  the  platform  for  her  finish.  Instead,  she  used  them  to  display  a  depth  of  determination,  strength  and  resilience  to  finish  the  competition  strong.     I’m  sure  there  will  always  be  people  who  remember  her  as  the  girl  who  fell  twice  on  America’s  Next  Top  Model.  Not  me.  I  will  always  remember  her  as  the   girl  who  showed  the  world  you  can  recover  from  life’s  falls. I’ll  be  the  first  to  admit,  I  have  taken  some  hard  tumbles  in  my  life.  Bad  decisions,  weak  moments,  and  wrong  crowds  all  have  gotten  the  best  of  me.   Nevertheless,  I  couldn’t  let  the  knockdowns  of  life  keep  me  from  recovering.  Falls  can  be  costly  no  doubt.  However,  forfeiting  your  future  because  of  a  fall  is   more  fatal.  This  is  what  I’ve  learned,  if  you  don’t  give  up  you  can  get  back  up.    And  here’s  how:  

1 Don’t  focus  on  what  happened  to  you,  focus  on  what’s   3 Don’t  live  your  life  in  the  fall;;  live  your  life  after   happening  in  you. the  fall.

  Lose  the  "woe  it's  me"  syndrome.    You  can't  sit  around  in  denial,  blaming   others  or  having  a  pity  party  and  expect  to  recover.    Remember  our  model   Alexandra,  she  didn't  have  time  to  pity  her  falls.    She  had  to  get  back  in   the  game  of  living  life,  and  so  do  you.     Believe  it  or  not  a  fall  can  be  a  good  thing.  They  don’t  always  feel  good,   but  they  can  work  out  for  our  good.  You’ve  probably  heard  of  the  reality   show  “Extreme  Makeover.”  Well  I  believe  sometimes  falls  can  be  a  set  up   for  divine  makeover.  After  all,  many  falls  we  suffer  are  the  result  of   something  being  off  balance  in  our  lives.  Our  thoughts,  morals,  convictions,   integrity,  and  motives  can  all  get  off  track.  What  better  way  to  get  back  on   the  right  track  than  to  fall  off  the  wrong  one.  Learn  from  your  falls.  And   focus  on  making  whatever  critical  adjustments  you  need  to  make  to  ensure   you  don’t  experience  that  fall  again.      

2 Don’t  focus  on  the  scribes,  focus  on  the  Sovereign   One. .  

You  have  to  learn  how  to  outlast  your  scribes.  Who  are  scribes?    Scribes   are  individuals  who  spend  a  significant  amount  of  time  recording  every   detail  of  your  life,  especially  your  falls.  I  know  what  you  are  thinking,   “I  don’t  care  what  people  say  about  me.”  You  don't  actually  believe  that   do  you?    We  all  desire  two  things,  love  and  acceptance.    So  to  some   degree  we  do  care  what  people  say;;  what  they  think;;  and  how  they  feel   about  us.       Falls  tend  to  make  us  more  vulnerable  to  people’s  perception.  But  here’s   what  I  have  learned  about  perception.  While  perception  may  be  a  person’s   reality,  it  doesn’t  necessarily  make  it  true.    Don't  spend  too  much  time   trying  to  change  people's  perception  of  you.    Nothing  you  do  or  say  will  alter  how  some  people  perceive  you.    Can  I  be  honest?    Some  people  will   never  get  over  your  falls,  but  you  can’t  let  that  stop  you  from  recovering.     Do  you  know  why  I  told  you  to  focus  on  the  Sovereign  One?    Because  our   falls  don’t  intimidate  Him,  they  intimidate  us.  Our  falls  never  catch  Him   off  guard.  They  catch  us  off  guard.  He's  omniscience.  He  knows  in  advance   every  public  and  private  fall  you  or  I  will  experience.  And  the  good  news  is   He  has  already  given  us  a  recovery  plan.  It's  called  REPENTANCE.    Never   allow  people  to  make  you  feel  like  there's  no  room  for  you  to  recover.    You   can  be  restored  again  after  a  fall  when  you  sincerely  repent.  If  you  don’t  hear   anything  else  I  say  hear  this,  you  have  been  graced  for  a  do  over.    Now  get  up   and  get  on  with  your   recovery. 6    SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER  ISSUE

Guilt,  shame,  and  embarrassment  will  all  try  to  tempt  you  to  live   the  rest  of  your  life  in  the  shadows  of  a  fall.    Don't  do  it.    You   have  to  do  for  yourself  what  others  may  not  be  willing  to  do  for   you.  Give  yourself  another  chance.  Your  yesterday  is  exactly  that,   yesterday.    The  best  of  what  life  has  to  offer  is  before  you  not  behind   you.  We’re  all  human  and  capable  of  falling  short.    None  of  us  are   here  today  because  we  made  every  right  decision  in  life.    Instead,  we  made   the  choice  not  to  let  the  wrong  choices  stop  us  from  moving  forward.     Recovery  is  not  an  option  for  people  destined  for  greatness.    And  that   my  friend  describes  you.    Call  me  a  bit  of  an  optimist,  but  I  believe   there’s  something  greater  than  a  fall.  That’s  the  recovery  of  one.    Don’t   give  up  on  getting  up.  There’s  still  time  for  you  to  recover.
