obviously the people who come to help with the children’s play sessions. Here is one family’s story. Sarah, despite being a very busy mother finds time to take part in sponsored events, rally hundreds of family and friends to support and conjure up raffle prizes. Over the last four years she and her family have raised in the region of £9,000! Adam, her husband, joins in by getting sponsored to grow a moustache and encouraging his clients to run a sponsored walk. Daughter Molly gave an assembly at her School about how Yorda supports her sister Poppy. This inspired the children and parents to raise money with a balloon race.

The Community Brain exists to help develop a stronger sense of community by creating events and happenings that allow people to meet and engage together. They help people release their talents and energies and, hopefully, become more involved in their community leading to a more positive attitude. Over the last four years well over a thousand people have participated and many have gone on to become involved in creating, designing and delivering events in Surbiton and Kingston under the banner of the ‘Spirit of Seething’. Charlotte, a volunteer, says: “My involvement with the Seething events has enabled me to grow in confidence and develop many brilliant relationships with incredible people. For me, it is important to offer opportunities for the community to come together and socialise. The events see a wide range of our community in attendance with bright and beaming smiles. Who wouldn’t want to offer their time and see such reactions!? Kingston Carers’ Network works with around 1200 unpaid carers supporting someone in the Royal Borough with a disability, illness or substance addiction. Nita has been volunteering with KCN for about two years, working in several different roles, and is now very involved in supporting fun and social activities for young carers as well as adult carers. She says: “I have really enjoyed volunteering at KCN - it’s been brilliant! I love meeting other carers and helping out and seeing them enjoying the activities. I get so much out of the experience. I am much more confident in myself and have learned new skills. Volunteering has made me happier”. Yorda Adventures provides play and short breaks for children with severe learning disabilities in Kingston upon Thames. Volunteering comes in many forms - most
