POLICE ADVICE

Neighbourhood Watch

Supplied by: Alison McWinnie - MET Police

It’s Neighbourhood Watch Week this month from 18th to 26th June! To celebrate we are holding two free crime prevention talks this month and would love to see you at these events. Please email Alison.McWhinnie@ outlook.com if you would like to attend. Our Staying Safe talk is at 10am on Saturday 11th June at New Malden Methodist Church. The programme will cover personal safety in a variety of settings including at home, on public transport, at cashpoints as well as online. We will also cover what to do if there is real trouble and facts that help police. Would you like to hear about current scams in operation and how you can avoid them? 10am on Saturday 25th June we will be ‘Beating the Scams’ at the Kingston Quaker Centre. If you are not a member of Neighbourhood Watch, do join us today by emailing Kingston. NHW@Met.Police.uk. Membership is free and there are no compulsory meetings. Receive crime alerts and discounts on household insurance with some insurers. Additionally, we currently have two offers for NHW members: Secure French Doors and Conservatories with Patlock Deter and stop would-be intruders with Patlock. Easy to fit, Patlock works by holding the door handles in place - ensuring the door mechanism can’t be opened, even if the locks are snapped or removed. Buy the Neighbourhood Watch Patlock at the discounted rate of £42.50 (including VAT and delivery). The Patlock normally retails at £64 at www.patlock.co.uk Mark Your Valuables with Smartwater

NHW members can buy a Smartwater Home Security Pack (including stickers) for £25; a saving of £50 as these normally retail for £75. Police routinely check for SmartWater; if your marked items are stolen but later recovered, the police can see you have used SmartWater, by checking with UV light. Any property marked with SmartWater can be identified and traced back to you, whilst the thief can be prosecuted. When you buy a pack online, your details are automatically associated with the unique forensic code in the SmartWater that is sent to you. In other parts of London, Smartwater has reduced burglary by up to 85%!
