A good way to put it is eat as though you were living on a farm. This will generally be nonprocessed foods. Meaning fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. 2) Follow the 90% rule If you can follow your diet plan 90% of the time then that is enough to have success with weight loss. If you find yourself breaking the rules more than 90% of the time then the chance of being successful with weight loss is not as likely. Your chances of failing increase significantly. Generally I follow my plan from Monday through Friday and then on the weekends I will have a couple of cheat meals. Usually that is all I need to satisfy my sweet tooth and my carb cravings. 3) Keep total fat intake under 30% for the day This can be accomplished by not adding too many extra fats such as butter, sour cream, mayonnaise, etc. It doesn't mean you have to completely eliminate these items, but do not eat them as a regular food item every day. A good start is to buy all natural mayonnaise products, organic butter and low fat sour cream. 4) Don't drink your calories Drinking your calories is probably one of the easiest ways to gain weight and alternatively the easiest way to lose weight. If you think about all of the calories in juices, coffee drinks, smoothies and soda pop it's easy to imagine how quickly they add up.
