It’s About the Mission The Salvation Army The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love for God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a wide array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 82 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 5,000 communities nationwide. For more information, go to

At The Salvation Army Kroc Center people are inspired to discover their God given talents and develop their potential through artistic, educational, physical and spiritual experiences in a Christ-centered atmosphere.

Joan Kroc’s Vision In January of 2004, Joan Kroc, wife of the McDonald’s restaurant chain founder Ray Kroc, left a gift of $1.5 billion to The Salvation Army to build and operate community centers around the country. Joan’s vision was that people in underserved areas would be given access to a high quality facility with a variety of programs so they might discover their natural gifts and talents. Kroc Centers are now located in 26 cities, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico!

The Omaha Kroc Center, which opened in the fall of 2009, is one of five located in The Salvation Army’s Central Region. It was made possible through both the generosity of Ray and Joan Kroc as well as the Omaha community. Our Kroc Center currently serves approximately 3,000 members. The facility, programs and events are also open to the general public. In addition, groups and businesses rent the Kroc Center for a wide variety of professional meetings and personal events. CONSTRUCTION uPDATE “ MCL Construction officially broke ground on the Kroc Center Enhancement Project back in July. It may appear on the outside not a lot of "building" has taken place in that time and its true you don't see a lot of new structure on the outside, but the amount of work that has taken place is impressive!

Excavation of the area and auger cast piles have been drilled to support the New Addition’s foundation. Structural steel will arrive at the Kroc Center project site the last full week of November, at that point, you will start seeing visible changes and get a good idea of what the new Kroc Center addition will look like in the future! As work continues on the outside, we are just as busy on the inside of the Kroc Center. Two new party rooms will be substantially completed by the Thanksgiving holiday; there will be minor work to finish up but the rooms will be operational. The Kroc Center expansion and renovation project is a rewarding experience for all the employees of MCL Construction. The improvements will have a positive impact on the community and enhance the mission of the Salvation Army. We understand construction can be an inconvenience to those who use the facility; it's our goal to minimize the impact of our activities and to assure your experience is the same as if we weren't even there. We are on schedule and look forward to giving you an enhanced Kroc Center that is sure to be a show-stopper!

– Travis Justice, Director of Business Development & Marketing, MCL Construction

To all the Members and Friends of the Kroc Center: It is my prayer that the Kroc Center is helping you reach your dreams and goals which may have at one time been beyond your imagination. At one time it was beyond our imagination that we would be expanding and enhancing the Kroc Center, but we are. The transformation we are undergoing is nothing short of miraculous. Right now we are in the chrysalis stage of construction. Wrapping temporary protective walls around the various construction projects for member and guest safety while underneath the wrap it undergoes significant and exciting changes. Soon we will emerge with a fresh new look! Keep watching as each phase of our enhancement project unfolds and reveals new and exciting updates!

“Too Brief Here On Earth, But His Impact Will Last Forever…” Josh the Otter was created in honor of Joshua Collingsworth, a 21/2 year old little boy who was lost to a drowning accident in June of 2008 in Lincoln, NE. His parents believed they had all the pool safety barriers in place but did not spend enough time talking to him about never going near the pool unless mom and dad were with him. During a family gathering he was briefly out of sight, went to fill his brother’s squirt gun, lost his balance and fell in the pool. Josh the Otter’s goal is to educate all children that water is fun but only with an adult. The Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation is dedicated to water safety and life saving programs like Float4Life. Kroc Center Aquatics | 402-905-3591

RJ Kroc’s Helpful Hints Safe, Healthy Swimming Your health and safety is of the utmost importance at the Kroc Center. This includes maintaining a clean and healthy swim environment for you and your family to enjoy. You can help us in this endeavor by following a few simple tips: „„ No glass, food or beverages (other than water) in the pool area. „„ Shower before entering the pool to remove deodorant, make-up and hair products. The cleaner you are, the cleaner the pool is. „„ Children not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper. For your convenience, swim diapers are available for purchase at the Kroc Center Welcome Desk. In the event that water contamination does occur, the pool will be temporarily shut down for cleaning. „„ Please do not use the pool if you have shown any signs of illness in the last two weeks.

Using the Pool „„ Swimming suits are required – no street clothes are permitted in the pool as the dye in non-swimwear pollutes the pool. No gym shorts allowed. Only white or light gray t-shirts are permitted. „„ Please bring your own towel. „„ Lockers are provided to store your belongings. To secure your belongings, please provide your own lock. Locks may be purchased at the Welcome Desk. „„ Parents are ultimately responsible for the safety and well being of their children: ƒƒ Children 5 and under must have an adult in the pool within arm’s reach. ƒƒ Children ages 6-8 MUST have an adult age 16+ visually supervising the child at all times. ƒƒ Children 15 and under may not use the lap pool unless they have passed a swim test. It’s not the Aquatics Center or the game room or even the advanced fitness equipment (though those things are awfully nice). It’s the mission! The mission of The Salvation Army is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination. One of the ways we accomplish this mission is by creating programs and services that develop assets in youth and families. Developmental assets are enriching. They help individuals reach their potential and contribute to their families, schools, and communities. Developmental assets lead to more caring, responsible, healthy, and productive habits and allow individuals to have a more positive self-view.*

The Kroc Center is special because it is intentionally creating pathways for each person to be inspired, receive instruction, and to get involved in a variety of ways. The moment we walked into the doors (of the Kroc Center) we fell in love. The staff at the front desk was so helpful and they showed us around and told us what they had to offer. Cody, my son, and I came here because we wanted to find a gym where Cody could exercise. Cody was diagnosed with ROHHAD which is short for Rapid Onset Obesity, Hypothalamic Dysfunction, Hypoventilation, and Autonomic Dysregulation. All big words that basically mean a part of his brain which controls all of his autonomic nervous system is not functioning properly. He is not able to control his heart rate, breathing, hormones, body temperature etc. He is also not able to control his weight and everything we have tried in the past has never worked at all. At the Kroc Center, we explained what we wanted in a gym and they told us we were in the right place. They got the Fitness and Aquatics Managers involved and had us meet with some of the trainers and gave us a plan for Cody and helped us every step of the way. I love the Kroc Center and all of the staff for being there and being so kind and helpful on Cody’s journey. They are helping my family and I to save him little by little every day. – Heather

I weighed 216 pounds when I started back in June of 2016 and now I’m down to 174 pounds. I’m still not done with my goals yet. But, still really, really love to work hard, because if I am not active I feel gross, but if I am active I feel great. I am so thankful for my friends and family for helping me lose weight. – Cody
