Foreword Dear orienteering friends,

of the participants in the 2 Days of North-West Veluwe.

On 23 June 2013, the organization of the 2 Days of North-West Veluwe was hit with some incredibly sad and tragic news. That day Peter Verbeek unexpectedly passed away after checking out from his race of the Dutch Sprint Championships. He was a driving force in the orienteering sport, a passionate orienteerer and coorganizer of the 2 Days of North-West Veluwe, including this year’s event.

The organization has been tireless in making this edition of the 2 Days of North-West Veluwe a success too. We are very pleased with the result so far. Also because the 2nd competition day is a World Ranking Event for the classes M/W 21. Given this, our event makes for an incredibly exciting one, with athletes from all over Europe entering for the competition.

For his family, circle of friends, work colleagues and the orienteering sport, his absence is and will be deeply felt. At the same time precious memories about Peter’s personality give us strength and inspiration to, literally and figuratively, place the orienteering sport on the map. One thing in particular has our biggest priority right now: we want to do justice to the significance that Peter had for the orienteering sport in general and our club MINOR in particular. In agreement with his wife Birgitta and his children Sylvia and Timo, we have been thinking about an appropriate manner to connect Peter with the orienteering sport. Peter was, among others, the course setter for the courses of the 2nd competition day of the 2 Days of North-West Veluwe 2013. Considering the importance of this, it feels natural to give the 2 Days of North-West Veluwe 2013 the name of Peter Verbeek race. Our tribute to Peter is expressed in a logo that in various ways and moments, before, during and after the 2 Days of North-West Veluwe 2013 will be visible (included in this bulletin). We hope, with Birgitta and the children, that Peter gets the particularly valuable place that he earned within the orienteering sport and above all in the hearts

This edition we offer something new: we give participants the opportunity to participate a free of charge, photo - or sprint orienteering course in the old city center of Harderwijk. You can run, or walk the course at any preferred moment that weekend. A great opportunity to discover the city! Stay tuned for updates on our website and Facebook page for the latest news and results after the competition. At this stage I would like to thank, in advance, all the volunteers for their part in the organization, before, during and after the event. In particular I would like to thank Anita Foppen, Dorine de Vries, Niels Peter Foppen and Peter Foppen. They form the core of the organization for almost the entire year. They make this event, together with the other volunteers and participants, a real success. We hope for good weather and look forward to a sportive, memorable and sociable weekend. A weekend Peter would have looked back on with pride. Hanneke Zuidema Chairwoman OLV MINOR
