Philosophy of Beautiful Art & Architecture

Act towards End (목적)
Everything has a purpose, a destination.
Something is ordered towards this end but ‘the Mode’ [method and everything that it participates with] can either help or deter it from reaching its end.
Harmony of cars in traffic.
Language gives order to an idea towards its actualization. It is a mode.
Architecture (Mode) communicates Transcendental Goods (진선미)
Language is a tool to know the essence of the object. architecture is a language. It is a ‘built form of an idea.’
Architecture leads us to know God’s divine Essence.
Architecture uses the “transcendental goods”: Truth, Goodness, Beauty.
Architecture (Mode) communicates Transcendental Goods
Pattern, symmetry, & harmony all form “order” which point to the “Creator” who designed the world with these elements.

Unfortunately, since the Enlightenment (계몽주의), the meaning of beauty has derailed from its original definition. No longer objective reality ), now subjective reality
But true beauty = revelation of the ontological reality of a thing, it’s Essence (본질).

The Church as a Mode
A church is a building designed with one purpose: the Divine Liturgy. We must know how to properly worship God in order to properly design the space for worshipping God – “with all our mind, all our soul, and all our strength (Mt 22:37).”
The Holy Mass is the most powerful expression of sacrificial love in human history.
