ABOUT US

Maria Luisa Rizzuto, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Mary Bauermeister - Summer ‘60

T

he Rizzuto Guccione family has owned the Piconello farm for two centuries. They have a strong tradition among the growers in the Sicilian countryside of Agrigento. The vineyard comprises in excess of 50 hectares, mainly trained with spurpruned cordon. In 2003 we proudly presented IBISCO, I.G.T. Sicilia 2001, our first bottled wine to the market. It is a blend of Nero d’Avola, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon it has an intense ruby colour. In 2004 the winery started producing STATALE 115, a 100% Merlot aged for one year in small French oak barriques. In addition we produced three new fresh and fruity unoaked wines.

They are: Piconello (100% Cabernet Sauvignon), Piconello Grillo (100% Grillo) and Jannicello (100% Nero d’Avola). All the labels have been designed by internationally well known artists like Piero Guccione, Franco Sarnari and Mary Bauermeister, close friends of the family. They are among many artists, musicians and writers who have chosen Picanello as a gathering and resting centre because of its long tradition of hospitality that blends farming, art and culture. A young, well known Sicilian artist,Croce Taravella is working on a big and impressive installation beside the new cellar. 3
