APRIL 10, 2011 THOUGHTS ON THE WAY UP MOUNT CARMEL Open House! Sunday, 1-3! I hope that you will take the opportunity to visit our parish school and take a tour of the classrooms. We are excited about all the new things going on in our school this year. And, next year will be even bigger. From the expanded pre-School, to the completely new lighting being installed this summer, the increased number of families new to the school, to the extension of our Art program to the full school year; the future for our parish school is now! Come and see! People must have heard me praising our wonderful staff of volunteers for our first Fish Dinner because the crowd at the second dinner was even larger. Those of us working the door barely had a break all evening! And, lots of satisfied customers left with smiling faces and “doggie bags”. Thanks to all those who worked before during and after and, thanks to the Seventh Grade from our parish school for setting up the gym in advance. (And to the Eighth Grade for setting up for our first dinner.) The dishwashing (and drying!) crew was especially outstanding! We certainly appreciate the help of so many parishioners. Holy Week is fast approaching. I would like to encourage you to participate in many of the unique and once-a-year spiritual and liturgical events that will soon be happening. This year, on Palm Sunday, you can attend the Men’s Council Father-Son Communion Breakfast. The 11:00 Mass that Sunday will include a Procession of Blessed Palms from our picnic pavilion to church in remembrance of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. Please try to be there at 10:45 so that palms can be distributed and blessed before the procession. And, for those who arrive as the bells are ringing, please drive carefully! I am sure that Jesus didn’t have to worry about automobile traffic in the streets of Jerusalem! Times have changed! In addition, the special services for Holy Thursday will include the washing of the disciples’ feet and the Procession of the Eucharist to the Adoration chapel. On Good Friday, we have the Commemoration of the Crucifixion in the afternoon and the children from our parish school will again present the Living Stations of the Cross at 8:00 P.M. The traditional Blessing of Easter food will be on Holy Saturday. You can check the full schedule in this bulletin. The conclusion of Lent is a very special time for all believers. I hope that you will join us in experiencing the power of God’s Love this Holy Week. One way that you can get ready for Holy Week and Easter is with the Sacrament of Penance. We have our parish Penance Service next Sunday evening and also at St. Boniface on the following Tuesday. We have been very busy with children’s confessions these past days. Our catholic high school students had their penance services with dozens of priests recently. Our own Religious Education students and the students in our parish school have all been to confession just this week. Don’t miss your chance this week. If the past 40 days have not produced the change you want, yet; then try the sacrament. You never know what God’s grace can do! Take some quiet time this week to read and reflect on the events in scripture which are the basis for our celebration. Set aside time for prayer. Don’t let all the busyness of this time keep you from getting ready to celebrate the Resurrection. Welcome back to our Southern refugees. It’s nice to have you back. Now let’s get ready to welcome the Son back from the dead! Fr. Ray
