APRIL 17, 2011 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Attention all public school and Confirmation families: Religious Education is looking to make registration easier for you. Beginning April 3, 2011, and for the remainder of April, we will be preregistering families for the up-coming 2011-2012 religious education year. You can register your family during any religious education class this month. By registering early, the textbooks that we order can be purchased at a very big discount! The Religious Education department can be better prepared for the start of classes in the fall. Remember, if you are attending a public high school, you must attend 9th and 10th grade religious education in order to be confirmed in 11th grade. If you have missed 9th or 10th grade the past two years, please call me and we can arrange make-up classes this summer! We are in need of the following catechists for the 2011-2012 religious ed school year. Kindergarten, First Grade, Fifth Grade and a helper for the Seventh Grade. Please join our dedicated team of catechists and share your faith with our children in this most rewarding ministry. Catechist Training and support is available. Have a great week! Peace in Christ Jesus, Sue Berdis, REL CHILD PROTECTION/CREATING SAFE ENVIRONMENTS Child Abuse Protection Month: April is designated as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Five steps to Safer Environments: The Diocese of Erie mandates that all people who work with children and youth in our parishes and schools undergo child abuse prevention training. The training details five steps to prevent child sexual abuse. 1. Know the warning signs! 2. Control access to children by carefully selecting the adults who work with children and youth, 3. Monitor all programs for the safety of children and youth, 4. Be aware of and sensitive to what is going on in the lives of children, 5. Communicate concerns to the appropriate person in aurhority. To see what the Diocese of Erie is doing to keep children and youth safe, check out http:// www.eriercd.org/protectyouth.htm.
