BOOK The name ‘Lines of Enquiry’ was chosen for the book and a customised typeface designed for used on the cover of the book. This type along with the degree name will be foil blocked directly onto the cover of the book for a more tactile experience. To prevent perceived favoritism amongst the graduating year the decision was made to utilise one of our commissioned abstract photographs.

NARRATIVE Through consultation with the Surface Pattern tutors the narrative of the book was broken down into ‘thematic enquiries’ - disciplines and design thinking used on the course. This dictated the narrative of the book and encouraged us to commission a photographer to take documentary shots of the courses studio spaces to represent the course environment. These images are found in the beginning and end sections of the book.

Graduates work was photographed and ordered into the thematic enquiries which act as chapters. Each enquiry heading has a title page that contains a description accompanied by a relevant image of work. These pages help to break up the books structure.

Not wanting to produce page after page of graduate profiles each thematic enquiry section contains images of graduate work relevant to the section with the images captioned with the designers name. These names can then be referenced by the reader in the list of graduates at the back of the book. This list contains all of their professional contact details. and websites.

REQUEST POSTCARDS I addition to designing the yearbook itself a series of five postcards have been designed to be distributed at trade shows and UCAS fairs. These request cards aim to cut down the number of books handed out to dead ends, ensuring that the yearbooks are received by the right people (FD graduates, industry professionals etc). The images used on the postcards have been chosen to give an accurate course section of the course.
