Wenjing Tang (Olivia) Level: Third year, full-time student of graphic design. Degree: Bachelor of Graphic Design I am an overseas student came from China. This is my second year study at Griffith University. About this assesment, the programs i used are Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. During the process of this assessment, I have not only practiced my skills about these softwares, but also learned how to work as a real designer. I am appreciated because it was really helpful for my future study and work.

Handmade soap is a very good area because of the specialty industry. Natural and healthy should be the most intresting industry and attract more clients.

HOW DOES PLASTIC LITTER HARM THE ENVIRONMENT? • wPlastic bags don't biodegrade, they photodegrade -breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways and entering the food web when animals accidentally ingest them. • A plastic bag can take between 400 to 1,000 years to break down in the environment. • Plastic bags cause over 100,000 sea turtle and other marine animal deaths every year when animals • mistake them for food. • Plastic bags are among the 12 items of debris most often found in coastal cleanups, according to the • nonprofit Center for Marine Conservation. • Nearly 90% of the debris in our

oceans is plastic. • Australians used 3.9 billion plastic shopping bags in 2007 • Nearly half a million plastic bags are collected on Clean Up Australia Day each year. (source CUA) • It takes only four grocery shopping trips for an average Australian family to accumulate 60 plastic shopping bags. (source CUA) • Plastic bags are produced from polymers derived from petroleum. The amount of petroleum used to make a plastic bag would drive a car about 11 metres. (source CUA) • In 2005, Australians used 192 HDPE bags per capita. (source Nolan ITU) • 14% of HDPE plastic carry bags are returned to major supermarkets for recycling. (source ANRA)

There are 2 types of plastic bags: • 1. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) bags - They are the thin singlet bags used by over 80% of retailers, including supermarkets. These can be recycled at most supermarkets. Generally they are not collected through your local kerbside recycling, however one or two local councils are currently trialling their collection - contact your local council first to see if they collect plastic bags. • 2. Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) bags - These are the thicker bags used by less than 20% of retailers, usually for luxury goods. While they can be recycled there are few collection points.Check with your local council to see if they collect LDPE plastics.
