DESIGN PROPOSITION Status: Declined

Olivia Rivayani Erina Vidya

The first design we made tried to fit as many rooms to the existing building and maintain the existing building plan. The design managed to fit 10 rooms into the building with 5 different type of rooms and maintained 70% of the original building plan. This design was declined by the cleint and our supervisor as the rooms experience was felt would be lacking. The plan, especially the circulation turns to be more complicated than it should be because we tried to maintain the existing plan as much as possible. Architecture and Design | SOI Purweredjo

The second design tried to focus more on giving the highest quality possible for the spaces in the guesthouse. The design has 10 rooms with 3 different types of rooms all designed with inner court and private bathroom. To fulfill this focus, we had to demolished a lot of existing building and only preserve about 40% of the existing building. Eventhough there will be a lot of spaces that be demolished, but the client like the simple and straigtforward space plan, hence this design will be implemented to the final building which is hope to set and be fully operated by 2020. DESIGN PROPOSITION Designed by: Olivia Rivayani Client : Katarina, owner of KAIE Beauty BRIEF

The client, Katarina of KAIE, wished for a design that could attract people and gain exposure through this event. She hope for a space that will grab people attention and ‘instagramable’, as it is a new form of effective product marketing nowadays. The design was made according to the rules implemented by the Brightspot even organizer. Those rules are including the height of the back wall (2.4m) and side walls (1m). STATUS

Design was revised as the owner has changes ideas and appproach on the pop up design.

ABOUT THE DESIGN

The idea came from the background of the product and Katarina’s hopes and aspiration of what space is going to be. Around the time of the Brightspot event, KAIE Beauty was unfortunate to be swept in a controversy where another product copied their packaging design. Katarina was upset to see her long hard work on designing the product to be copied claimed easily by other company. This happening and Katarina’s wish to have the space that will garner people attention has given me an idea to present and showcase the product as a work of art. The whole theme is an art museum, where the KAIE products, visitors and their users are part of the art itself. The products are exhibited in a glass box, some are open boxes so people can reach for the product and try it out. The mirror is placed on a frame, as the KAIE products users are just as beautiful as a painting. The back wall is covered in scrunched up black paper, indicating the long complicated process of designing the product.

The final design was a product of numerous revision and adjustment to client request. The final design was built at Brightspot event 25-28 October 2018. It will be a product of collaboration between JS Tjandra Architect, KAIE Beauty, Arcon Exhibition and Botani Indonesia. STATUS

ABOUT THE DESIGN

After numerous design propositions and revisions, these final designs are a product of collaboration between KAIE Beauty, JS Tjandra Architect as the designer, Arcon Exhibition as the contractor, and Botani Indonesia as the designer for the moss instalation. The final design is designed for a collaboration between KAIE Beauty and Botani ID, moss designer. KAIE decided to do a collaboration with Botani out of the admiration of their work with moss and how the natural plants that usually be discarded are actually beautiful. The moss placed in the front area, close to the circulation to grab attention, and the space underneath are used as a storage cabinet. The back wall is designed in an arch shape that resembles a window with a mirror on the other side. The window that usually used to see whats outside are being used to see the reflection of oneself, to depict the message to KAIE consumers to stop looking and comparing at other people and start looking at ourselves instead. The design of the booth itself hopes to send the massage of KAIE Beauty Brand, what the brand stands for and promote, which is to encourage women to embrace their natural beauty, be kind to themselves and stop comparing themselves to others.

HUMAN RIGHTS MUSEUM OMAH MUNIR IAI MALANG BATU CITY, EAST JAVA INDONESIA

The Human Rights Museum of Omah Munir was conceived as a forum for human rights education, especially for the younger generation to grow into citizens who are peace-loving, tolerant and able to practice human rights values in everyday life. Batu City was chosen to be the location of the Museum of Human Rights for Omah Munir because of the late Munir who was known as a human rights defender and had received an international and birth rights Livelihood Award in Batu.

The human rights museum is aimed to educate the younger generation on human rights by telling the story of various human rights movement in Indonesia. The architecture itself is designed to be able to help the main cause of the museum, by making an architecture that is part of the experience that support the process of telling the story. To do this, the architecture is divided into two parts, underground and upper ground, with an installation in between. The underground area is designed in a winding turns, twisted shape, with a slightly uphill interior, that will lead to the installation. The installation has narrow, tilted walls, that surrounded by a loud, splashed waterfall. These are designed to accentuate the struggle of those in the past that fought for human rights. It was messy, complicated, confusing, controversial, dangerous and often time pushed them into seclusion. The upper ground consists of 3 masses, two of which are for the public and one is for office and private classes. The upper ground is where the museum will show the struggle and problem in human rights nowadays. Shading some lights to the human rights cases nowadays that require more attention. The last mass is designed to look exactly like the mass before it, intending to spark the idea for the visitors of another part of the museum, which is not the case. This wished to make the visitors feel disappointed and spark a discussion, hence in the last area of their journey in the museum, there will be a library and a coffee shop where the discussion is hoped to happen. This also opens up the possibility for a further expansion of the museum in the future as the fight for human rights continue.
