michelangelo fondazione // villa madama, rome michelangelo often utilized perfect geometries to organize his works. specifically influenced by st. peterâ€™s basilica, i saw an opportunity to incorporate these perfect geometries in my design for the fondazione-creating a square â€œtwinâ€? to the completed circular courtyard mirrored across the villa madama. further making use of these geometries, the facade of the fondazione design is comprised of three squares and three golden rectangles. each element relates to the spaces and functions within the program, which is simply organized defined by served/service functions within each of these thirds.
while creating a relationship to the existing courtyard, this design solution also allows a portion of the gardens to be maintained and utilized as an additional courtyard between the villa and the fondazione.

our beautiful commons // charlottesville, va bda prize competition entry proposal for a memorial at Charlottesville's Downtown Mall. aimed at inciting change in relation to the growing tensions Charlottesville has experienced. while the competition was not focused on a specific person or event, my entry focused on using public space to bring people together, stimulate conversation, and create social change. board excerpt: My. Mine. Them. Theirs. No. Ours. In a world of divisive words and creating sides, it is critical to recognize the value of shared public spaces- our public spaces. This design reimagines the space as one that fosters communication and interaction in Charlottesvilleâ€™s Downtown Mall. Those who share a particular location share in the richness of its natural elements and physical environment. Each person in Charlottesville brings his or her own memories, experiences, and thoughts to this place, each with a valuable perspective that is to be shared and, perhaps more importantly, heard. We can bring light to this by creating an experience that connects a shared place with various individual experiences through creating conversations. By providing places to sit that weave throughout the Halprin design and into topographical shifts in landscape, we can promote these actions. Each space is formed from a common ground in a way that is conducive to social geometries that encourage communication. Stimulating interaction within the context of a community addresses both these shared and personal experiences. Good, effective communication fuels change. What can we do to help get these conversations started? Encourage it. Create a place for it. Initiate it. Engage in it. Be prepared for it. Donâ€™t avoid it. Itâ€™s time we use something other than hate to communicate. 12

intersection: greeting cards // a personal project line of greeting cards inspired by life, created for the three-thirteen co. each with a hand painted design that i created from personal memories relevant to the occasion represented on each card. their simple design provides a large space for the giver to add their own personal message, tying together my memories with theirs. This goes on to create a variety of different intersections: one between giver and recipient, between my memories and the giver's memories, and finally tying together my life and my work.

the three thirteen co. // willshire, oh the three-thirteen co. is a small-town family business that sells a selection of home goods, apparel, gourmet chocolate, and personal items. i created the logo and continue to do freelance work for the store, creating print material, advertisements, and merchandise. we kept things simple with light colored neutrals that can be changed depending on the season and used with a variety of color palettes. like the store's style, the fonts selected combine both modern and classic feels. i also created a line of ohio and indiana t-shirts that are currently sold in store. i worked with a local print shop after creating the designs to choose the types of shirts i believed would sell best. since their introduction, the shirts have become a top-selling item. top: a selection of our of state t-shirts bottom left-right: gift certificate, business card front, business card back 21
