“Design is a plan for arranging elements in such a way as best to accomplish a particular purpose. - Charles Eames

Typography Book Typography is something we see everyday and everywhere. This book was designed based on everyday typography. Each article in the book was a article based on a certain typography style. I walked around the city of Providence observing, and taking photos of typographic styles. Some located in the most unexpected places, such as a gas valve, building sprinkler, church door etc. Since Providence is the design capital, I wanted to capture its historical value. I used stencils to paint the word “TYPE on the front cover. I also painted and crumpled brown packing paper to give the book a rustic feel in order to match the environment of inspiration.

The Winners Club The Winners Club was a rebranding project, that required me to design a logo that would represent the entirety of the brand. This casino isn’t like any other casino. Once inducted, you become a life long member. Like most clubs, they would attend competitions nationwide and compete against other clubs and organizations. I wanted to design something that would stick out from the average “card playing club. I used black and white with a pop of color to keep the design timeless and clean. I hand drew the logo then scanned it in,the inspiration for the logo came from the actual card club symbol. My hand drawn design delivers a striking but modern twist on the original symbol, it appears traditional in style but when applied creatively it becomes visually compelling.

The Peppa Pot I was given an assignment to design a food truck, not just any ordinary food truck, but one that would attract a large number of customers. The Peppa Pot is a food truck design that was inspired by the Jamaican culture of hot peppers that are often used in West Indian cuisines. Hence the name “The Peppa Pot. I wanted the truck to be seen from miles away. This truck would be located in the heart of the Big Apple, but it would not be a stationary truck. Each day it would travel to different areas of New York to share the taste and enjoyment of good food with everyone.

Lima’s Treat

Ltreats imas

Limas Treats is a start up business, looking for a fresh clean design that would appeal to people of all ages. I decided to not go with the traditional shape like a circle or square. I went with this oblong skewed shape for an elegant mature look. I used baby pink and a bright shade of teal to appeal to the younger crowds. I used a hand drawn font to tie everything together and make the experience for the brand and the customers as personal and heart filled as possible.

How to Grind Coffee Beans

CAFE

1.Determine how many cups of coffee you want to make.

Whole BeanCoffee

2.Measure and pour 2 tablespoons of Brown House coffee beans into your coffee grinder for every 6 ounces of coffee desired. 3.Start your coffee grinder by making one short burst of grinding that lasts only one or two seconds. Stop the grinder. 4.Shake the grinder (securely holding the lid of the grinder to the base of the grinder) to mix the ground and the unground coffee beans. 5.Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until your coffee beans are ground to the desired grind. A coarse grind will take approximately 8 seconds of grinding, a medium grind will take approximately 12 seconds of grinding and a fine grind will take approximately 16 seconds of grinding. 6.Check the progress of your grinding by taking the lid off the grinder after shaking the beans. Stop grinding when the desired grind has been achieved and pour the coffee out of the grinder. 7. ENJOY !

Brown House Cafe

The branding of the Brown House Cafe required me to design different peripherals of a coffee company. The peripherals contained a bottled iced coffee product, coffee beans and a container of coffee filters to show the brand consistency. Through research I decided to name the company Brown House Cafe. I settled with this name because I wanted to incorporate my last name “Brown” to personalize the overall brand. As for my color scheme I went with brown and beige for a subtle basic look with a pop of blue to bring out the energetic feel caffeine can deliver.

WALK

The Proud Walk There are walks all over the world for various different reasons. The Proud Walk, an original idea, was created as a walkathon to remember famous historians who impacted the lives of millions. I want the walk to be symbolic and an enjoyable learning experience for attendees and volunteers. The fist symbolizes the strength and pride we all possess. As for color, I decided to go with a soft shade of yellow and mid-tones of burgundy to appeal to the general public.

Future Naturals Future Naturals was inspired by an actual photograph and my desire to learn more about design. Digital drawings was something I didn’t know much about so I committed myself to this project just to test my abilities. This project was created using Adobe Illustrator. I wanted to capture the same details that were displayed in the actual photograph. I made sure to highlight her cheek bones, the curls in her hair, low lights and shadows of her skin.

The Shake Shack “For Kids Childrens Menu Every time I go to a restaurant It takes me at least 30 minutes just to find out what I want to order and I am an adult. Just imagine the confusion our children are faced with. I designed this menu to make our lives a little easier. This multi purpose menu now allows ordering to be easier while providing space for coloring and creativity.

Genieva’s Dream Genieva’s Dream is a “Design for Good” campaign aimed to help at risk inner city youths. I created an organization that could put a stop to unfortunate events such as homelessness. Through research and personal experience, I realized that Queens is a rough city in New York to grow up in, hundreds of children go homeless per night. I wanted to create an organization that could put a stop to homelessness. For the campaign I designed a logo which would capture that inner-child and mature serious adult in all of us. I designed a mock website, AD series, poster designs, and T-shirts.

RUN FREADINGR

Run for Reading is an annual race held by the Rhode Island chapter of the Rotary Club. I was asked to assist in the creation of a logo for the race and an apparel design. The event planner wanted a logo design that incorporated the Rotary International logo. I went with a sneaker initially, because that is usually what come to mind when I think of a race whether its walking or running. I provided 4 different logo variations two with sneakers and two with runners. The single runner was a crowd favorite and printed and used distributed.

Spirit of Youth YOGA is a start-up company in San Francisco, California. The client wanted a clean visually appealing design that would be age and gender neutral. I decided to go the cleanest-route by using typography to my advantage and creating a text lock. Creating a text lock I was able to maintain the same width of all the text boxes, creating a seamless design. I wanted to make sure that the message was delivered clearly while maintaining simplicity.

FORMAL INVITATION TO FOLLOW

Wedding Invitations I was given the honor to be a major of the happiest day of this couples lives. I wanted to ensure that the invitations would be a representation of their happiness and the beauty of love. I used colors recommended by the bride and constructed a text lock up with elegant accents. Instead to traditional white paper I chose cream to make the purple and lavender catch the eyes of the attending guest.

Ou Natural Catalog “Ou Natural” is a natural beauty catalog. I based my catalog on natural beauty because being “Natural” is something I recently fell in love with it prior to me going completely natural and wearing my hair in its natural state. In my catalog I wanted to give my readers some tips on why they should go natural, what to do once they have gone natural, the transitioning phase and different techniques to keeping your hair healthy. I wanted my book to support readers in their natural hair journey every step on the way. I demonstrated this through photographs of friends and family who also have natural hair. I used mature yet playful colors through out the book for consistency. I want my readers to look at my photography and see themselves. I want them to learn how to be themselves and embrace it.

The Book of Prov Attending Johnson & Wales has caused me to fall in love with the city of Providence. I decided to make a informational book on Downtown Providence, for the many tourist that visit the college town. In the book, I incorporated some of the popular locations around the city such as, good places to eat, shop, and hang out. I want this book to be something that people would keep on their book shelf after using it. I used leather fabric to create the front and back cover then I binded the book with two one inch bolts. * Featured in the Achor Exhibit

Isabella Vargas This digital painting was created for a child’s birthday party. Isabella was inspired by a photograph I digitally reproduced. I wanted the digital painting to replicate the photograph as much as possible as well as capture her adolescent youth and beauty. I sketched out the picture then made it a vector image, allowing me to explore different color variations to make the digital version just as vibrant as the original.

Rhianna “LOUD” Vector Painting Seeking a challenge I recreated R&B Artist Rhianna’s album cover “LOUD”. I used a variation of different shapes and shades to replicate the cover. From the shadows underneath her eye lashes to the shadows below her chin I took note on several details in hopes to recreate the image while maintaining beauty and emotion. In order to capture this I used Adobe Illustrator and created multiple layers of shapes which would begin to formulate a masterpiece.

Parade of Beauty Pageant Flyer Parade of True Beauty is an Annual Pageant held in Oxford, Mississippi. For this event I wanted to capture beauty, elegance and royalty in order to do that I incorporated a crown to take shape with the text lock. I stuck with the fraternity colors (purple and gold) and used different variations of both colors. I finished it off by applying gradient to the crown, lines and background.

Hand Crafted By Jamilah J Hand Crafted by Jamilah J is a catering company based out of New York City. The client wanted a professional design that would allow her to brand to grow. She wanted a eye catching logo that wouldn’t need explanation. My first idea was of course to incorporate some kind of cooking utensil to eliminate the guessing aspect when customers would see her logo. However cooking utensils in a chef’s logo is rather popular. I wanted to throw a little twist into it and have the logo laying on a cutting board just to set her apart from the rest. We used common herd and vegetables to incorporate into the logo. Following the logo design I created a “leave behind” post card that she would be able to hand out to clients. These post cards will double as a mini menu, and business card. I was asked to keep the back of the card clean and straight to the point. I decided to use the accent blue from the knife handle to break up the text a bit and incorporate the font from the logo here as well to tie the whole thing together. This master piece was completed in Adobe Illustrator.

This organization needed a logo that would set them would capture their passion. They wanted to some home incorporate the phoenix bird and a crown, I did just that. In this project I went decided to use text and the phoenix as the logo. I wanted to design a logo for that would capture who they are in their logo I also wanted to make sure it targeted women. Going with this shade of purple would catch the attention of all women not just girls. I also designed a simple letter head, business card and envelope. With these materials they were able to bloom their ideas into a reality.

Mini Teacup Exhibition The Miniature Teacup Pigs Exhibition was a project influenced by my obsession over the adorable miniature pet piglets. Many people don’t know much about these tiny piggies besides, the fact that they are weird pets. I wanted to design a exhibition that would launch once a year open to the public free of charge, to educate people on the friendly and highly intelligent animals. At this exhibition you would not only learn about the piglets but you would also be able to adopt one. Along with the Exhibition I designed an app that would allow people to indulge in this exhibition via mobile virtual tour. The app would also have educational publications on pigs so you can learn from home. Equipped in this app, after you have taken the virtual tour and learned some fun facts about pigs, you too would be able to adopt a pig like Abby all from the comfort of your home. This project was completed using Adobe Illustrator.

4 Shades of Beauty This project I was able to utilize my Photoshop skills. 4 Shades of Beauty was for a beauty Campaign, I wanted to capture all skin tones because we are all beautiful. This started off as a hand drawn sketch that I later scanned in and retraced using my drawing tablet and proceeded to fully color in Photoshop. Projects such as this one force me to tap into what made me fall in love with design and that is my drawing skills and way it comes hand in hand with graphic design. I was able to get the design replicated on a pillow and a stretched cloth canvas. Although challenging, the final product was worth it.

Dimensions of a Sinner Dimensions of a Sinner is a geometric portrait of artist Jermaine Cole, using Adobe illustrator. I wanted to capture the depth and complexity of his art. He has probed the minds of his listeners with his artwork and I wanted to create something as visually pleasing. The name “Dimensions of a Sinner” take a spin off the “dimensions of geometric shapes and from what plagues us all...Sin.
