Workshops & Conferences The OWC specializes in boutique workshops and conferences that give members access to high quality professional writers at reasonable rates. We hold workshops in both the Portland metro area and the Oregon Coast. Our annual Sylvia Beach Spring Conference features a nationally recognized author who leads a weekend workshop on a focused aspect of writing, as well as a literary agent who teaches a session about trends in publishing and allows writers to pitch their work.

OWC members have access to the Colonyhouse, a historic cabin built with hand-cut logs, a large fireplace, and doorknobs and shelves carved from roots of uniquely shaped branches. Located in Rockaway Beach on the Oregon Coast, the house is available for reservation by members at low cost for individual retreats, writing group gatherings, and small writing conferences. The Colonyhouse also hosts our Mentor in the House program, which mingles talented authors with emerging writers for a weekend of writing practice and one-on-one consultations.

Our community of over 300 members has published over thirty books, including New York Times bestsellers. Every summer, the OWC celebrates Founders Day at the Colonyhouse, featuring regional authors as speakers and a chance to meet the membership. We also look for ways to give back to our community. Our developing Writers Circle program brings member/volunteers to local junior highs and senior centers to teach workshops.
