The Challenge 2013 Charity Event

About Ch Challenge is a not-for-profit organisation that supports approximately 300 children and their families living with cancer every week by providing:

Dedicated support in hospitals for children undergoing treatment, with activities including cooking, arts and crafts, celebrity visits, bedside games and book reading. It also provides iPads, internet access, video games, DVD players, and an extensive DVD library, plus a number of activities to support parents. Access to support services at the Challenge Family Centre including music therapy, massage therapy, information seminars, a playgroup for children who cannot attend their usual crèche or kindergarten and a resource library equipped with cancer-related reading materials. Access to a broad range of activities that take place in the community such as camps, tickets to concerts and events, holiday accommodation, parent retreats and social activities, home help and scholarship opportunities. The main goal of Challenge is to make life for families a little easier as they face their cancer journey head on. Challenge receives no government funding and relies on the generous support and donations from individuals and community groups.

Mr. Hive Kitchen & Bar ‘I would like to introduce you to Mr Hive. Mr Hive Kitchen & Bar, Crown Metropol’s rustic signature restaurant, is the brainchild of Executive Chef John Lawson, whose reputation for modern comfort food bursting with big flavours last year earned him a coveted nomination for The Age’s Young Chef of the Year. Influenced by stints in New York and Toulouse, Lawson combines traditional French techniques with world class local produce. This a young man who’s not afraid to make luxurious produce the hero on the plate. There’s a playfulness to the menu, in dishes such as ‘black and blue tuna’ and ‘crispy little pig’, in which golden cubes of crumbed and fried pig’s head are served with beetroot-stained watermelon and barbecue-style sauce.’ The Age Good Food Guide 2013 Brought up in a small town in Essex, John discovered his passion for food as a young man working at his father’s local pub washing dishes, while still at school. After acquiring his diploma at Westminster College, John’s first experience of a working kitchen was doing a Stage at a family run restaurant in Toulouse called Restaurant La Rapiere, where he cooked dishes using produce from local farms sourced earlier in the day. With experience in two Michelin star restaurants, he produced exceptional modern French cuisine under the guidance of Raymond Blanc and Gary Jones. John spent time in London and then headed to New York , where he first began working for Gordon Ramsay as part of the team involved with the opening of Gordon Ramsay at The London. He progressed quickly from Chef de Partie to Sous Chef; however, after three years in New York John moved to a more exotic location - Oman - where he worked as a private chef. In January 2010, John moved further east and took on the role of Head Chef at maze Melbourne from its inception, before becoming Executive Chef in early 2011. Following maze's closure, John leads the same premises into a new chapter as Executive Chef of Mr. Hive Kitchen & Bar.

Welcome to this very special night, where we as a group can make a big difference and help the lives of so many, through the amazing work done by Challenge – supporting kids with cancer. Tonight has been made possible by the incredible support of Crown Metropol Melbourne and Mr Hive Kitchen & Bar. When asked to help with this event, they were delighted to help Challenge and the FIA to make this event a success. Special thanks to the GM and Executive Chef for their support. Please enjoy their food and the luxurious surroundings of this spectacular venue and the Bright Lights of Melbourne.

Terms & Conditions: 1. You can make an ABSENT bid for any of the items above. Please contact Carol prior to the event, by Wednesday 15 May, before 12 noon. 2. Absentee bids should be via email stating item and number, your name, phone and email plus the maximum amount you are prepared to go to. 3. Phone bids can also be organised for the night. Silent Auction: There will also be a silent auction for the Melbourne Food & Wine Boards from the Urban Coffee Farm, a world 1st event, held in March 2013. These Boards would look fabulous in your Boardroom / Warehouse / Staff Room. (2, x 1m approx in size – each will be sold individually). Live Auction: We have ‘lucky’ 13 packages for you to consider and place your best bid to secure these wonderful packages. Register your name for bidding and grab ‘a hand’ so you can use this for bidding with your number! Wine Wall / Vouchers: Buy a bag from the wine wall @ $20 each and you will be surprised with a bottle of wine, a voucher or some other treats.

6. All monies will be donated to Challenge (except the auction of the bike which will be given to Ride for Cancer – Peter Mac).

1. Payment for any items is required prior to be handed to you as the winner. 2. Payment can be made with a credit card, cash. (cheques only by FIA members). 3. Credit cards will incur a 2% surcharge to cover credit card fees. 4. The person will need to sign a form with their details which will be processed after the event and a tax invoice will be sent back to the contact person.

Yealands Estate We are pleased to serve our NZ wine for the Challenge fundraiser. Located in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough, Yealands Estate produces award winning wines in harmony with the environment. So good are the Yealands Estate wines that our Single Block Sauvignon Blanc has been awarded the title of the World’s Best Sauvignon Blanc (International Wine Challenge, 2012).

Little Creatures Little Creatures loves beer. We also love Challenge and the work that they do. A fair bit of creativity and passion goes into the brewing of our beers. It’s this shared spirit of experimentation and creativity that drives us to get involved with events like this we think it’s pretty great company to be in. We live over here on the internet, and also hang out here and here if you want to have a chat.

Interislander   The Interislander is far more than the New Zealand ferry service which bridges the North and South Island. It links our great country. The three-hour, 92km journey between Wellington and Picton is one of New Zealand's most iconic tourist experiences and acknowledged as one of the most spectacular cruises in the world. You will never forget the Cook Strait. It's so spectacular, we named it after the guy who discovered us. The journey is even better than getting there.

Flowerdale Flowerdale Farm supplies over 150 different varieties of Shoots, Microgreens, Sprouts, Petite Vegetables, Edible Flowers, Salad Greens and Herbs. We are continually working with chefs and growers to develop our ever increasing range so that we can regularly bring new products to you.
