FRIENDS OF THE OLDHAM COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARIES October 12, 2011 President Tony Acree called the General Meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. All officers plus eight members were in attendance. Tony introduced our guest speaker, Lynn Tincher, the owner of Otherworld Publications located on Main Street in LaGrange. Lynn spoke about the publishing business. She is organizing “Pitch the Publisher” day on Saturday November 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. where authors can present their book ideas to several local publishing companies. Flyers were available for the four performances of “Really Radio” presented by the Library and the Arts Association of Oldham County. Tickets are available in advance at Gallery 104. The Treasurer's Report was given by Faye Frank. As of October 1 the Friends have an account balance of $7975.86 plus $79.27 in petty cash. Mary distributed copies of the Minutes from the June 8 and July 18 General Meetings. Annice moved that they be accepted and the motion passed unanimously. Volunteers: Working with local nursing homes was briefly discussed but no decisions were reached. Linda Goin, Program Coordinator, announced that the Green River Writers will present their works in December. Events: Boo Dell, presented by Yew Dell Gardens and the Oldham County Public Library, takes place Saturday October 29. The Friends table will be manned by Suzie Lloyd, Carol Braund and Sally Lackner from 11 a.m. 2:00 p.m. Sandy Thacker moved that we authorize $50.00 for candy to be purchased by Bethany to hand out at the event. The motion passed unanimously. Wishing Trees will be set up in each of the three libraries during the holidays. The ornaments will list items desired by each library. Bethany will get a wish list from each library and print out the ornaments. She will be asked to have them ready to decorate by November 7. Linda Goin has

arranged for the Friends to decorate the ornaments on Monday November 14 in the LaGrange Arts and Crafts facility downtown. Patrons will pick an ornament and pay the dollar amount so the Library can purchase the item. Annice moved that we authorize $50.00 for decorating supplies for the ornaments. The motion passed unanimously Following a question about expenditures it was pointed out that once the Executive Committee approves an expenditure the membership must vote to accept that expenditure in the next General Meeting. National Library Week is April 8 – 14. It was suggested that activities involve a tie-in with reading, e.g. readings by local officials. Friends Art Show: This could take place during National Library Week. Friends who are artists may display their works at the Main Library on the walls or in the locked display cases in the hall. A reception for the artists during a Friends General Meeting was discussed. Sally will ascertain the level of interest for a show via email by the first of the year Tony asked if anyone was interested in having another Holiday Book Sale this year. Last year's was very successful as a result of a lot of hard work by a small group of Executive Committee members. Progress of the non-profit status was discussed. Amendment 1 to our Bylaws, which was passed at the General Meeting July 18, was needed to incorporate. Carol Snyder has a packet from the state Friends giving information on the Muhlenberg County Library's application, The IRS requires specific wording which is contained in this packet.
