Draft Minutes to be corrected and approved at the June 13, 2012 General Meeting FRIENDS OF THE OLDHAM COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARIES General Meeting Wednesday May 9, 2012 Chris Duncan, Oldham County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Science, was our guest speaker. She put on a cooking demonstration and discussed the books Pride of Kentucky and Living Well. The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. In attendance were officers Suzie Lloyd, Mary Wells and Faye Frank plus three guests and seven Friends. (attendance sheet attached) The group purchased three copies of Living Well for the Library. Vicki Pidgeon, last month's speaker, sent a thank-you note to the group. The April Minutes were approved unanimously on a motion by Annice Johnston. The Treasurer reported a balance of $6,666.14. The $75 in Petty Cash being held out will go back into the account after Oldham County Day. (see attached) Old Business: We have a tax ID number but no word yet on the 501(c)(3) application. The Girl Scout who contacted us about book contributions to the schools struck by the tornado has received so many book that she has stopped collecting. The Bookstore shelves will be put up when the people who work on the Library maintenance come in. Suzie will recheck in mid June. The new Bookstore banner was displayed and there will be a metal sign on the wall in the Children's Library. The cloth banner will go above the doors of the Bookstore. New Business: Carol Snyder introduced Joan Sloan and Anne Nall and Sherry Abernathy introduced themselves to the group. Sally suggested that the Friends plan an event or sale for the July 26 (Thursday evening) Big Band Concert at the Library. Classic Movies will be shown on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. Sandy Thacker suggested some ideas for themes to go with these movies.


UPCOMING EVENTS: Fri. May 11 at 10:30 – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to stuff registration bags for the Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Wed. May 30 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Kick-off for the Children's Summer Reading Program. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED. Sat. July 21 OLDHAM COUNTY DAY Friends are needed to man our booth and help with the Library float. We made $160 last year. Sally has asked for volunteers but received no responses. We will wait until June 10 and then decide whether we have enough volunteers. If so, Sally will file the registration form and $50 registration fee which are due June 15. The meeting was adjourned at 7:35 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Mary Wells Secretary
