Draft of Minutes. Subject to approval on August 11,2010 FRIENDS OF THE OLDHAM COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY July 14, 2010 President Tony Acree called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. The meeting was held in the Nature Center at the Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen. An Open House in the Mahan Library was held preceding the meeting. Music was provided by Barefoot Best Friends. The June 9, 2010 Minutes were approved. GENERAL BUSINESS: -Connie Oldham said that the Library will print Friends Membership Cards. -Treasurer Carol Snyder reported 38 paid memberships. In addition there have been several donations. -President Acree asked approval for the Friends to spend about $100.00 for a scanner requested by the South Oldham Library. Laura Root so moved. Cissy Maloney seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: Cissy Maloney and Annice Johnston presented the “1000 Friends in 2010� theme and distributed an informational flyer. The strategy is to have each library sign up 10 Friend hosts who will each recruit 10 more Friends who will each recruit 10 more Friends. Cissy explained the benefits, activities and needs of the Friends. She also passed out a survey to be completed and returned with or without a signature. Cissy encouraged those present to join the Friends and to provide an email address on the meeting sign-up sheets and on the membership applications. Cissy asked for a show of hands for 10 recruiting leaders to head up the Mahan Branch Membership Drive and her request was successful. GUESTS: -Rhonda Burks, Mahan Branch Manager, gave library statistics on patrons and items available to check out. -Tavia Cathcart, Executive Director of the Creasey Maham Nature Preserve, spoke of the ongoing relationship with the Library. -Susan Eubank, Director of Oldham County Public Libraries, addressed ways to expand services in the area.


Tony announced that the Friends will have a booth on Oldham County Day, Saturday July 17 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. New members signing up will get a free T-shirt and a paperback book. In response to a question about where the Friends money will go President Acree and others gave examples of the scanner just approved, continuing education for the library staff, support of the staff and buildings, bringing in guest speakers, author book signings and marketing materials.
