FRIENDS OF THE OLDHAM COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY General Meeting Wednesday July 11, 2012 Steve Flairty, author of Kentucky's Everyday Heroes and Kentucky's Everyday Heroes for Kids, spoke to the group about his writing experiences and meeting the people he wrote about. The Friends purchased three copies of his children's book to put in the libraries. The General Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Vice-President Suzie Lloyd. At 6:30 p.m., before presenting our speaker, Tony Acree had resigned as President in order to apply for a job with the Library and excused himself from the meeting. Present at the meeting were Treasurer Fay Frank, Co-Treasurer Carol Snyder, Secretary Mary Wells, Board of Directors member High Blair, guests Wendy Schoeppner Marylynne Collins and Nelda Moore and 6 Friends. Marylynne Collins, President Elect of the Friends of Kentucky Libraries, and Nelda Moore came from Frankfort to present our group with a check in the amount of $400, our fee for applying for 501(c)(3) status. She congratulated us on obtaining the tax-exempt status and spoke of the role of Friends in advocating for Libraries at the local, state and federal levels. After a suggestion by Connie that future minutes list the names of the officers present at each meeting instead of saying “all officers were present, Faye moved to approve the June General Meeting Minutes as written. The motion passed unanimously. Treasurer Faye reported revenue of $114.90 from the Book Shoppe and an expense of $50 for Oldham County Day Fee for a balance of $6761.29. Oldham County Day Sat. July 21: Sally Lackner, Events Chair, reviewed the plans for Oldham County Day. Mary will check that we do have a booth since our application and fee were sent in late. Tony paid the $10 late fee. Suzie, Sally and John Lackner and Tony will meet at Mary and Don's garage to pick up the books and will set up our booth in LaGrange. Tony will man the booth all day and volunteers will work in two hour shifts. There is a gap due to a cancellation from 2 4:00 p.m. Sandy and Ron Thacker and Linda Goin will come about 4:30 to start the tear-down. We still need children's books to give away.

Funding Request Procedure and Form The proposed Funding Request Form and Funding Request Procedure had been mailed to Executive Committee members and copies were available at the meeting. The Form is for use by the three branch librarians to request funding from the Friends. On a motion by John Lackner the one-page Funding Request Form was approved unanimously. After discussion it was decided that the Procedure form will not be distributed but will be used internally. Instead, a cover letter will be sent with the one-page Funding Request Form. Members noted that there need to be directions for submitting the Funding Request Form. Membership Forms: The Membership form needs some revision. Hugh suggested that Executive Committee and Board members be sent a PDF of the revised form and that they make copies to keep on hand and distribute. Suzie agreed to revise the form and distribute it. She reminded us that a Membership Drive is due to be held now that we have our 501(c)(3) status. Change of Night for General Meetings: Sally asked people to be thinking of an alternate night to Wednesday for our General Meetings starting in the fall. A change would avoid conflicts with church activities which usually take place on Wednesday evenings. Big Band Concert Thursday July 26, Large Meeting Room: Plans were reviewed. There will be a 16 piece band, candy popular in the 1940's for sale, Friends dressed in clothing reminiscent of the era, a power point show with facts and pictures and a memory board with copies of photos gathered by the Friends. Nominating Committee: Suzie asked for volunteers to present a slate of officers for September's Annual Meeting and election of new officers. Those agreeing to serve are Linda Goin, Connie Oldham and Sandy Thacker. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Mary Wells Secretary
