OLDHAM COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES June 14, 2012 Main Library 308 Yager Avenue LaGrange, KY 40031 Call to Order The June meeting of the Oldham County Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 6:30 pm, June 14, 2012 by Sallie Haynes at the Main Library of the Oldham County Public Library system. Other Trustees present were Julie Wilson, Lonnie Hardin, and Anne Murner, Also present was Library Director Susan Eubank. Assistant Library Director Mary Mielczarek acted as recorder. Public comment / Guests Consent Agenda 1. A motion to approve the minutes of the May 10, 2012 meeting was made by Anne Murner and seconded by Julie Wilson. The minutes were approved. 2. A motion to approve the Financial Reports & Payment Voucher for May, 2012 was made by Julie Wilson and seconded by Sallie Haynes. The Financial Reports & Payment Voucher for May, 2012 was approved. Business 1. Department of Corrections contract for Institutional Account. A motion to approve the signing of the Corrections contract was made by Sallie Haynes and seconded by Julie Wilson. The signing was approved 2. E-Civis Grants Partnership with County Government. A motion to opt out of the eCivis partnership was made by Anne Murner and seconded by Julie Wilson. The motion carried. 3. Civil Engineering Expenses for the North Oldham Lions Club property. A motion to recover the Civil Engineering Expenses for the North Oldham Lions Club property was made by Sallie Haynes and seconded by Julie Wilson. The motion carried. 4. Surplus receipt printers (14) and paper. A motion to agree to surplus the printers was made by Anne Murner and seconded by Sallie Haynes. The motion carried. 5. Roof repair and security at the Main Library. The Director reported that teens were climbing on the roof of the Main Library for skateboarding. The Director will hire a contractor to inspect any roof damage and will investigate methods to dissuade trespassers. 6. A motion to approve the hiring of new personnel to cover vacated hours was made by Sallie Haynes and seconded by Julie Wilson. The approval passed. 7. Health insurance. A motion to proceed with the health insurance option most attractive to the staff was made by Sallie Haynes and seconded by Julie Wilson. The motion passed. 8. A motion was made by Sallie Haynes and seconded by Lonnie Hardin for the Library to purchase a gift certificate (value $250) for the tax lawyer at Wyatt, Tarrant and Combs who has worked pro-bono for three years to resolve differences with the IRS over mistakes that the Library did not make. The motion carried. The issues were finally settled in the library’s favor. Director’s Report 1. The $600.00 Library Outreach Scholarship was presented to Savannah Wallace of OCHS. 2. The new Library web page ( www.oldhampl.org ) went live last week. There are added apps so that smart phone users can use our catalog much more easily. 3. On June 5, 2012, there was an incident of trespassing and vandalism at the Main Library. A police report (LAPD Taylor) with the LaGrange Police was filed on Wednesday, June 6. 2


4. All Library Districts that are special taxing districts have received a survey from the Department for Local Government. In addition, the State Auditor will be presenting sessions in every ADD district for board members of special districts. 5. The official tally for the Main Library’s Summer Reading Program Kick-Off was 2195 persons between four and six pm on Wednesday, May 30. Kudos to the Library staff at Main and additional staff from the branches who kept everything running smoothly.
