A SERIOUS “CRUSH”...

Darrell

Wedding Ideas exclusive interview with Corey and Muffin Boo Where did Darrell propose? Darrell proposed to me at my college graduation party at my parent’s house in front of all our family and friends. I screamed and asked him “Are you sure???” probably a 100 times, or at least it seemed like it! We had met in junior high school and had been dating 10 years! Everyone (including me) was so excited and happy for us. It was the greatest graduation present I could have hoped for.

The crush started 10 years ago

You have a story about how long you had been dating‌. Muffin Boo (my nickname for Darrell) and I did meet in junior high and during year book signings, I would sign my name Corey Green instead of my last name. To this day, my friends laugh and say that I knew I was going to be Corey Green 10 years before I actually was. I was that sure and that much in love with Muffin Boo from the beginning. How did you choose your colors? This was the hardest part of the wedding planning for me. I finally decided on a gorgeous plum purple and silver accented with peacock feathers. I have always loved deep purple because it makes me happy and fit perfectly with the elegant glamorous theme I had visualized in my mind.

A Bride’s Guide www.okcweddingideas.com

So, you would describe your theme as elegant? I wanted to do something that I hadn’t seen before. I was going for an elegant glam theme. I had rhinestone/diamond wraps, peacock feathers and ostrich feather centerpieces. I tried to incorporate peacock feathers and diamond wrap anywhere and everywhere I could for as much dazzle as possible. There was sparkle everywhere you looked. My cake turned out to be spectacular and one of a kind! Describe your wedding gown for us, please. My gown was very unique with an oversized vertical bow draped down the side. It was a “fit and flare” taffeta gown, strapless with a sweetheart neckline from Alfred Angelo. I had a crystal belt added to the gown to give it more personality and wore leopard heels to add even more of my own “look”. What kind of flowers did you carry? Calla lilies….love, love, love! What were your party favors? Our guests loved this idea because it was so personal. We bought bottled grape (to match our colors) Crush sodas and attached a card that read “It all started with a CRUSH….10 years ago”. What song did you first dance to? We chose Uncle Kracker’s “Smile”. Are there any special memories you would share? Darrell and I two-stepped for our first dance since we love country and western dancing. We stayed up very late drinking Champagne and opened every last gift the night of the wedding…we wanted it to last as long as possible!!

says, “He is so slick! I was completely surprised and super excited! Josh gets two thumbs up for creativity. He never ceases to amaze me.” The wedding was a day time wedding and Sandra struggled with choosing colors. She went with a color she describes as a silver satiny purple and knew it would be perfect for her girls. The guys wore heather gray Calvin Klein suits to complement the gorgeous purple the girls were wearing. Adding a pop of color were the pinks and purples in the floral choices. Sandra’s gown was an exquisite choice for her and she looked radiant as she met Josh at the altar. Beaded appliqués, a lace up back and a semi cathedral train were gorgeous on Sandra and she was a beautiful and glowing bride.

The bridal bouquet was an eclectic mix of romantic soft pink roses, plumb hydrangeas, regal calla lilies and freesia. To give her bouquet a vintage feel, feathers, pearl sprays and bouquet pins were added. Sandra added some of her own special bling to the wedding and considers it all a “labor of love” for the wedding and her husband. At the end of the day, Sandra and Josh consider their wedding uniquely theirs and exactly how they envisioned their wedding day. It was fun, elegant and everyone had a great time and really felt their wedding was the biggest party of their lives and will always remember that amazing day.

and Clint GOOD FRIENDS TO THE RESCUE My wedding day came and my Dad was still in the hospital and I knew he was not going to be at our wedding. We are a very close family and it was so important to me that my Dad be included. Both our families went to the hospital the morning of the wedding and we had a service in his room where the priest blessed the rings. My photographer, Kim Stubbs, offered to come to the hospital and capture the service. I was so thankful to have pictures of the service and of my Dad and me on my wedding day. We also had a plan so that he would see the wedding from his hospital bed via internet and Skype. At my rehearsal, I was disappointed to find my plan wasn’t going to work. My wonderful friends found a way for it to work! They all put their heads and resources together and made sure

Photos by: Kim Stubbs www.Stubbsphotographybykim.com it happened. Between iPads, iPhones and FaceTime, he did see the wedding! Without our good friends, none of this would have been possible. It meant so much to me to know that they would come to the rescue so that my Dad would not miss seeing our wedding ceremony. It was a crazy, fun, emotional night and we were so happy we were able to share it with the people we love‌even with my Dad, who was there in spirit and love from a hospital room.

Wedding TIPS Renee And Brandon Seven months! It sounds like a long enough time but it flew by! Still, we were able to get everything done. I hope these tips and suggestions will help you plan your own wedding.

What is one of the best ideas I have to pass on to other brides... try to do as much as you can on your own. It ended up saving us a lot of money and it was so much fun to do with my mom. We had a blast and we both said that we were sad when it was over. I also told everyone that I didn’t want any stress and if something was going to cause a fuss, it wasn’t worth it to me. I just wanted to enjoy the day and be happy. I tried to look back on all the weddings that I have been to in the past and think about what stood out. I decided that if it didn’t stand out to me, then it wasn’t worth the money. My mom and I did many of the little details ourselves. Such as the Cinderella skirt for my cake table. It was a challenge to assemble but it looked beautiful when it was finished. My photographer was an easy choice for me. Sherry Lynch had photographed two of my friend’s weddings and I loved how she made everything seem so easy. She was able to capture my wedding just as I wanted and I absolutely love my pictures. Her ability to instantly see a photo opportunity was awesome. We had a buffet at the reception with a variety of food. We had an Italian station, shrimp cocktail, beef and ham carvers, spicy pineapple meatballs, crab dip and chicken drum-

mettes. This menu seemed to work well and our guests loved the variety. We had a full bar but did not have a specialty drink. Bakeries can do so many artful cakes. I had a traditional wedding cake but I also had the most spectacular red velvet groom’s cake. It was a replica of a guitar my husband’s grandfather had given him as a teen. It looked totally real! We opted for many special touches that meant the world to me. My dad and husband recorded Pachelbel’s Canon in D on the guitar and we played it while our wedding party was walking down the aisle. My bouquet stem was wrapped with brooches that belonged to my great grandmothers and a ring that belonged to a very special great uncle. The ring bearer carried a Bible that my mom carried in her wedding. My wedding was definitely everything that I had ever dreamed and I cannot thank my parents enough. What I am saying is this: make sure your wedding is yours and your husbands. Include mementos that are special to both of you. These are the touches that are important and that you will always remember.

Krist en and

Patrick

THE PERSONAL TOUCHES ARE PRICELESS....

Kristen was dazzling as she walked down the aisle to meet her love, Patrick, in a beautiful, customized bridal gown. The ivory satin strapless, scooped necked gown had an asymmetrical ruched bodice and detachable cap sleeves that Kristen had added to make the dress uniquely hers. Her mother made Kristen a garter from the lace of her own wedding dress and adorned it with pearl beading. It is a very meaningful memento to Kristen. In fact, so much so that it sits on Kristen’s mantle under a wedding picture of she and Patrick. For the garter toss, Kristen had found a garter with an Air Force coin on it as a surprise for Patrick. The couple are both active duty Air Force Officers, so it was a unique and subtle opportunity to include that in their wedding. Instead of doing the usual candle or sand ceremony, they opted for a more personalized unity ceremony bouquet. Each family member in attendance placed their respective flower in a center vase prior to the ceremony and Kristen and Patrick added their two individual flowers during the ceremony to symbolize the new family they had created. Those members who had passed away were represented by candles and white roses or yellow roses if they were veterans. WI likes the many ways this wonderful couple took to include their families and to add the heartfelt personal touches that made their wedding warm and personal.

WI Debbie’s Tips How to hire reliable wedding professionals. When selecting a vendor, here are some tips to consider: Think first of the events you have attended and what vendors impressed you. Otherwise find vendors through friends, co-workers, family or by referral from other vendors. Then follow up by asking for referrals and check them out. Read reviews on-line, check out their Facebook, Pinterest, blog and website. Do they show current portfolios and interesting ideas? Compile your wedding ideas: wedding date, theme, number of guests, expectations, budget, etc. When you meet with a vendor face to face to discuss your wedding dreams and details, did you feel like your personalities complemented each other? Was the vendor prompt to respond to you and offer helpful suggestions? Always require the vendors you have selected to put it in writing! They must clearly outline your ideas with specific prices, deposit requirements and final payment deadlines. Never hesitate to contact your vendors with concerns. Wedding professional understand that questions will arise and are happy to communicate with you. For Information on Advertising call 405.216.0747
