Wi Exclusive Interview

and

Josh

Laura, I love the story of how Josh proposed! Please tell our readers how it came about. Well…one morning at work, I had a floral delivery of one rose in a vase. Of course, I was totally perplexed…one rose??? Each hour, another rose was delivered and put into the vase until there were 11 roses. That evening, Josh came to my house with a single rose and a marriage proposal. Josh was wonderful and I was very excited! You have another interesting story about your maid of honor and bridesmaids? I have so many sweet friends that I did not want to choose between them for a maid of honor. Coupled with the fact that I am very close to my younger brother. So, my little brother became my “man” of honor and was on the bridesmaids side. Not traditional but that’s OK!

girls having fun! What kind of flowers did you carry? My beautiful bouquet was a lovely traditional combination of lilac hydrangeas and white roses. I hear that there was heavy rain the day of your wedding. Did you have a Plan “B” and what happened? Plan A was to have our reception outdoors under a large tent in my Dad’s backyard and Plan B was to have it inside my Dad’s house, which would have been tough because our guest list was over 300. It was pouring rain the day of the wedding. I was very anxious, as you might imagine. It literally rained all day until just before the wedding. The ground was soggy but under the tent it was fine and it all worked out beautifully. What was the first song you and Josh danced to? We chose Wanted by Hunter Hayes. Josh and I loved the lyrics - especially the line “everything makes sense when I’m with you”. Did you have a theme to your wedding and how did you carry it out? I would say my theme was vintage eclectic. All the tables were decorated differently - I used varied flowers, candles, doilies, vases and bottles to give the reception my own personal touch. My Mom and I made all the centerpieces and my mother-in-law found the vases at garage sales and flea markets. What was your favorite moment?

I think when we got to the reception. My nerves were calm and I was ready to relax and enjoy our guests and the rest of the evening. Is there any special memory that you would like to share? Our pictures are so special to me. Brittney Ashton did a fabulous job of capturing so many aspects of our wedding. I love the photos where my girls and I have on the black glasses. Very fun! Was there anything you “splurged” on? My Dad and I are both accountants…so, no! We had a budget and stuck to it! Did Josh have any special requests? Josh was pretty easy. He did ask for a kayak groom’s cake and that was fun for him. What were your party favors? We had koozies that said “Eat, drink and be married”.

Photos by: Brittney Ashton www.BrittneyAshtonphotography.com

What was the best advice you were given? My Mom told me to try and enjoy every minute of planning the wedding because you are only going to do it once.

Expert ADVICE...

D I Y WEDDING AND R EC EPTIO N L I G HT I N G Are you a bride-to-be that loves the DIY experience or maybe you need to reduce your expenses to stay within your budget? Beautifully lit rooms, cake illumination and monogram lighting on the floor or walls are within your reach and your budget! Seth Stevenson, at Innovative Event Solutions, explained to me how you can rent specialty lighting and do it yourself. Well, maybe not yourself, but with a willing friend or relative, the lighting is easy, affordable and awesome. IES has rental packages for $99.00 and bundled together, I’m told you can have a knock out look for a mere $300.00. Seth says that they do the set ups and installation

for weddings every weekend but they have had so many requests for rentals that they now have most of their products available as rentals. Seth had me operate the equipment myself so that I could see how easy it is. And, yes, it is easy and you can DIY, too.

What Kaitlin thought was a simple day trip for fun and hiking to Turner Falls turned out to be an elaborate proposal plan from Jimmy - with the help of friends. As Kaitlin and Jimmy hiked, signs hanging from trees near the falls, spelled out “Marry Me”. Good friends (and accomplices) captured the very surprised Kaitlin’s reaction on video as she excitedly responded,“Yes“. Kaitlin chose the lovely, subdued soft, natural spring colors of greens and whites for her wedding. Wearing her grandmother’s pearls and a fit and flare gown that was

designed and created at Helen Enox Fabrics, she was breathtaking as she walked down the rose petal strewn path toward Jimmy. Rosebrook Vineyards was the perfect location for this farmhouse chic wedding for the two long time sweethearts. This charming vineyard setting lent itself to the rustic décor of mason jars, floating candles and lanterns - all lovingly assembled by family members. Kaitlin and Josh wanted a wedding and reception that their guests would not soon forget. Attention to detail resulted in a reception and dance that came together flawlessly for an extraordinary evening where everyone danced the night away in Rosebrook‘s barn! Guests were offered flip flops as dancing shoes so that they could “kick off their heels“ in comfort. M A Y

Some of the best advice Kaitlin was given came from her sister who told her to make sure she had a good photographer. Kaitlin says the wedding and reception

went by so fast and there are so many things she doesn’t remember, but now she can look at her photos and say “oh, yeah, I remember that”! Great advice. Her photographer, Lisa George, proved to be an excellent choice.

WI Just Married Tips Whitney and Hutton RealWedding.HerAdvice. I was lucky enough to have 18 months to plan our wedding and I am grateful for every day of it. Although there were times when I was ready for the day to arrive, I used every last day to add all the finishing touches. I asked for a lot of help. There is no possible way I could have done it alone…or even with just a few people helping out. Friends and family were my lifesavers! For instance, I had my heart set on having mismatched vintage plates for the reception. I (and everyone I could get on board with my plan) spent over a year going to antique stores, garage sales and thrift stores picking up enough mismatched vintage china to serve dinner and cake for 200 people. It took a lot of time to find that many pieces but it was totally worth it. I feel this was a special touch that really made the wedding uniquely “ours”. The wedding package at our venue included a wedding coordinator and I’m not sure what I would have done without her. She made sure everything turned out perfect from the very first day we met to the very moment we left after the wedding. I highly For Information on Advertising call 405.216.0747

56

recommend having a wedding coordinator - you are in uncharted waters and they have knowledge and experience to guide you. Our venue prepared an awesome reception dinner for our guests. We had salads, baked mesquite chicken, green beans, a “mashedpotini” bar and dinner rolls. We had an assortment of red and white wines, beer, vodka and whiskey with 6-8 choices of mixers. We displayed all the bar options on a chalkboard at the bar. The cake was delicious - a five tier cake with 3 layers of lemon with raspberry filling and 2 layers that were traditional white cake. The groom’s cake was a replica of the groom and our Labradors on a duck

hunt. Good bakeries can do magic! At midnight, we served a soft taco buffet with all the condiments. People were hungry again and I loved this idea! I think we had some great touches that people really appreciated. Since it was 95 degrees, we served refreshments as people were being seated for the ceremony. We also did bathroom baskets for each bathroom with items that might be useful to people throughout the night such as Tylenol, hand lotion, bobby pins, hair spray and antacids. Advice

I would pass along: That no matter what happens, there will still be a wedding. Even if every little detail doesn’t turn out perfect, at the end of the day, you are still getting married. Happy planning!

-Whitney

WI Debbie’s Tips BE A SUPER STAR GROOM •

Haircut should be done 3-7 days before the wedding, not the day of.

Don’t experiment with a professional shave the day of your wedding.

A straight edge razor shave can cause redness and ingrown hairs.

Get a schedule of when and where you need to be and follow it.

Before heading to the wedding venue double check to be sure you have everything: socks, cuff links, the RING, etc. •

No over drinking the night before and especially the day off!

What ever you do, do not forget to thank the bride’s parents... your in-laws... for everything they have done. Thanking yours is a good idea, too. For Information on Advertising call 405.216.0747
