DELIGHTFUL DETAILS

Jeremiah

RealBride.RealGroom.TheirStory Wi Exclusive Interview Jeremiah, what would you say your favorite moment was? “When I saw Nicole walking down the aisle, it was just a wonderful feeling. She looked so beautiful. I feel the wedding is more about the bride’s day than anything else and I wanted Nicole to have a really special and wonderful day. And, I think it was that kind of day for both of us”. Nicole, please tell us how you selected your wedding colors. I have always loved purple but didn’t want to go with other contrasting colors. I loved the richness of the purple with touches of soft white and gold. Did you go with the wedding tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue? Yes, I did. Of course, my something new was my lovely wedding gown and veil. For something borrowed, I pinned a brooch belonging to my great grandmother onto my bouquet. My something blue was “I do” written in blue on the bottom of my heels and my something old was a wonderful wedding dress that my grandmother was married in. I changed into this very special dress for my going away dress. I also used the ring bearer pillow that my Mom and Dad used in their wedding.

Did you have a wedding theme? Elegance and pearls. I love pearls and tried to incorporate them wherever I could. I wore pearls and my Mom and bridesmaids wore pearl necklaces, too. Your reception area is beautifully lighted…even your cake seems to glow. How did you do this? We used a local lighting company, IES, and they were very talented! The room looked absolutely stunning! Our cake really did seem to glow with the specialty lighting they put on it. Was there anything that you splurged on? I would say flowers. We wanted flowers everywhere to make a beautiful room even more beautiful. Tony Foss was our florist and I don’t think anyone could have done what he did. He was so creative and amazing! Such an artist! We also had a hair stylist that came before the wedding and did all the wedding parties hair and makeup. Was there anything that you made yourself? We made our own candy bar…all in shades of purple. The candy bar sat on an ornate console table in the banquet hall and looked fabulous. Another fun idea we had was our wedding favors. We

filled small bottles with tiny purple candies and made R/x labels that were a prescription for everlasting love and happiness. It was a personal touch from Jeremiah and me to our guests. What song did you first dance to? We started with formal ballroom dancing to Gimme That Girl by Joe Nichols. But, there is more to the story… Scratchhhhhh… Jeremiah and I put on sunglasses and broke into a dance routine that is referred to as Rock the Reception by our dance instructor, Sheila Abbott of Premier Wedding Dances. Starting with “Moving like Bernie” from Weekend at Bernie’s, we then moved into Gangnam Style by PSY followed by “What is Love” from Night at the Roxbury movie. Next was the “Carlton“ from Fresh Prince of Bellaire and back to Gimme That Girl with a huge dip and kiss for our grand finale. Because it was so unexpected (even our parents didn‘t know), everyone was totally surprised and loved that we did it! We had so much fun and it got the reception off to a great start. We will always remember how much fun our reception was!

Looks we Love…the lavish profusion of flowers, gorgeous tables, the stethoscope groom’s cake…

A WEDDING OF BEAUTIFUL COLORS

Candace

and

Gregory

A chance encounter on a cruise with girlfriends brought Candice and Gregory together when they were both seated at the same table. Joking and laughing lead to dating which lead to their engagement and marriage! Candice’s lovely color palette of berry, coral and creamy white came together in a gorgeous garden themed wedding. Candice went to the paint department at Home Depot and used paint chips to select her colors. Who knew Home Depot would assist in

wedding planning? Her bridesmaid’s walked down the aisle in beautiful berry strapless dresses, each wearing matching stands of pearls and sassy heels. All eyes turned on Candice as she met Gregory at the altar wearing a soft, billowing princess style wedding gown with a delicately silver beaded inset at the waist. But, oh! The flowers! Every shade of berry, pinks, corals, whites, and purples against the bridesmaids dresses and Candice’s white gown were breathtaking. Simply beautiful! This creative couple made their own unique party favors. They bought white tiles at Habitat for Humanity and stamped each one with “Dance like no one is watching you. Love like you‘ve never been hurt before. Sing like no one can hear you. Live like it‘s Heaven on

Earth.” Each tile was tied with a colorful ribbon and placed on the tables...another colorful and personal touch. Clear vases held exotic orchids for the table decor. Candice says her favorite moment was when a video she had secretly made was played at the reception. She and her girlfriends danced to Beyonce’s Love on Top as a surprise for Gregory and yes, he was surprised! Candice says, “Greg’s mouth dropped open”.

Looks we Love…beautiful, beautiful flowers, cool gray suits, her late Grandmother’s cross pendant on the bouquet…

Arin met John while working at a local restaurant and soon thereafter began a 3 year romance that ended in a fabulous St. Patrick’s Day wedding. The couple definitely had dreamed of a St. Patty’s Day wedding and fortunately, St. Patrick’s Day fell on a Saturday allowing Arin and John to carry out their plans for a “green” wedding. Arin chose to accent Shamrock green with black and white damask for a

fresh, crisp color palette. The St. Patrick’s Day wedding theme was approached with an eye for fun - green beer and green cocktails were served. The couple concocted their own signature cocktail for the reception and called it St. Patty’s Punch. Arin wore green heels to complete her attire and had her bridesmaids write advice on the bottom of her shoes. Arin says her favorite moment was walking down the aisle and seeing John for the first time that day. Her heart skipped a beat as they were about to become husband and wife before family and friends. The couple share a common interest in baseball and it is always involved in their favorite memories. Their engagement pictures were shot in Bricktown so it was no surprise that they incorporated baseball into the wedding reception. The grooms cake was a Boston Red Sox cake and just like the Red Sox, the song Sweet Caroline was their wedding theme song and was sung at the reception. Party favors for guests were green match boxes inscribed with Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Leaving the reception in an antique white Bentley, the couple flew off to a whirlwind honeymoon in St. Lucia.

Expert ADVICE...

CHOOSING A PHOTOGRAPHER…WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW A picture is worth a thousand words. It’s true. These are the recorded memories of your wedding that you will look at over and over. One day, your children will look at your wedding album and you will want it to be as special to them as they are to you. Remember, too, that we live in a YouTube world and your photos will likely show up on social media sites such as Pinterest and Facebook. Of course, you want wedding photographs that are awesome! You want your photographer to capture beautiful moments, tender moments, fun moments, priceless moments…you’ve saved wedding photos from Pinterest, bridal magazines and you also have your own ideas of what you are wanting. All perfectly acceptable. But, here are some words of wisdom from area photographers to help you get the photos you want and not be disappointed. Lisa George, owner of Lisa George Photography, cautions brides that the quality of the picture you love from Pinterest or from a magazine could be largely dependent on the source of lighting. If your example photo is shot outside at 4:00 and you have a 7:30 wedding, there is no way to capture the same photo without natural light. Lisa says this is the number one thing a bride should realize to avoid disappointment. Other considerations: does your church or venue allow flash lighting? How close to the ceremony can the photographer be? Lisa says that many churches and venues have restrictions in place and it would be wise to know these before a location is decided on because For Information on Advertising call 405.216.0747

56

Photography Ideas these will affect your photos. Professional photographers bring lighting to ensure excellent quality, but if your venue won’t allow additional lighting in the chapel or if the reception area is small, the photographers hands are tied. Sherry Lynch, of Sherry Lynch Photography, tries to prepare her brides to have realistic expectations for the location, available lighting, and the time frame. A bride and her family must keep in mind that there is only a limited amount of time- both before and after the ceremony. However, a good photographer will structure and plan shots and gently encourage the bride to be ready for the shots she has requested - your wedding photographer becomes a director to some extent and works diligently to stay within the time allotted. Sherry adds that photographing in low light is especially challenging for beginners and should be left to the experienced professionals to insure excellent shots. Sloane Paullus, who was recently married in a large formal setting, says she interviewed 5 photographers before she found a photographer that she “bonded” with. She felt her photographer liked her and truly wanted to please her. It is important to take time to look at the photographers portfolio and judge the quality of their pictures. Look for lighting, composition, and creativity plus basic quality -- exposure, color balance and focus. Remember, anyone can build a website and call themselves a photographer. Look at two or more weddings the photographer has shot to determine if their work is consistent. Good photography for such an important event is not something to compromise on. It is worth spending more and being confident that you have hired a true professional that you can trust to provide you priceless memories in pictures. WI Just Married Tips Bethany and Stew So many decisions…but it is so much fun and you are making memories to last a lifetime. One of the best ideas we had was to have a designated person at the gift table to receive gifts and enter them into the guest book. This also ensured that cash gifts in envelopes were not lost or misplaced. Find someone as your sounding board who you trust to give you their honest opinion and advice. In my case, it was my mom, sister and my best friend and they were wonderful. We were lucky enough to book a venue that did most of the “hard work” for us. It was such a relief to us that they coordinated the wedding reception with all the vendors. Most wedding event centers have extensive experience with weddings and they know exactly how to make weddings and receptions run as smoothly and stress free as possible. I went with photographer Kim Stubbs, who had photographed several of my sorority sister’s weddings. She takes pictures that aren’t too formal and stuffy, but still gets photos that everyone will love. For Information on Advertising call 405.216.0747

I have often thought that I would have had our photographer there for the entire day prior to the wedding. I’d suggest having her/him at the bridal luncheon and the rehearsal dinner. I believe you will capture many priceless shots that you would not otherwise have. Another suggestion - don’t plan an early morning departure time for your honeymoon if it is the next day! It will make for a long day of travel. Our flight left at 7:00 a.m. and I wish we had booked it after 10:00 a.m. so that we would have been more rested. Our caterer put together a “doggy bag” for us so that we would have something to eat after the reception! It was such a welcome surprise to find this treat in the limousine. We were so busy at the reception, we hadn‘t taken time to eat. I think our wedding was great! All of our family and friends were able to celebrate with us and help us start the next chapter in our lives. All our guests seem to have a great time and it truly was the best night of our lives. Happy Planning!

A WEDDING AND A MISSION

Whitney

and

RealBride.HerStory.

ut t on

From the moment Hutton proposed, Whitney knew she wanted a peach (not pink) wedding. She spent 4 months choosing a color to complement peach and finally decided on a lovely, soft blue which Hutton definitely approved of. Many of the details incorporated blue accents: blue mason jars, blue ties, blue signs and her blue shoes. Whitney was dedicated to having a vintage wedding with her own personal touches. She and her family spent countless hours searching garage sales, flea markets and antique stores for 250 mismatched vintage plates that were used at the buffet. Creativity runs in the family. Whitney’s Grandmother lovingly made each and every one the breathtaking floral arrangements and bouquets. Family members made the wine cork place card holders, signs were painted, menu boards lettered… each contributed a special part to help make Whitney and Hutton’s dream wedding a reality. Whitney says that two of the simplest touches they provided brought rave reviews by many appreciative guests. Bathroom baskets were filled with essentials like deodorant, hand lotion, headache medicine, hair spray, antacids and other toiletries. Also, in addition to an earlier buffet, there was a delicious midnight taco bar that was a huge success. What great (and considerate) ideas!
