Graduate Assistant, Homecoming & Event Planning Student Activities Center, Oglesby Union Florida State University General Information This position will co-advise the 20+ member Homecoming Executive Council in the planning and implementation of FSU’s Homecoming, and will assist the 600+ student groups with event planning and permitting. This position is part of the Student Activities Center team of professional, graduate, support, and student staff. Graduates Assistants must be enrolled in a Graduate degree program at Florida State University, preferably in the Higher Education Master’s or Doctorial Programs. As a member of the Student Activities Center staff, the successful candidate must be able to work independently in assisting students to develop creative and successful programs and events. Preferred Skills The qualified candidate will enjoy working with a wide variety of students and student programs. Applicants should be outgoing, positive, articulate, and flexible. Advising and organizational skills will be key to success. Knowledge of leadership theories and skills preferred.  Basic knowledge and understanding of college programming and activities and event planning skills  Strong administrative skills  Leadership skills that are transferable to advising (ie: ethical decision making, organizational skills, conflict management, delegation, etc.)  Basic computer skills included but not limited to: Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and the internet Work Hours Graduate Assistants are expected to work 20 hours weekly and should set regular office hours. Late night and weekend programs will occur periodically throughout the year. Job Title: Graduate Assistant for Homecoming & Event Planning The Student Activities Center Graduate Assistant (GA) for Homecoming and Event Planning is a position focused on large scale even planning, advisement of student groups, maintain a $250,000 budget, risk management, policy development, contract negotiation, interpretation of University policy and state law, collaboration with other University staff, and resources for students. This GA will report directly to the Assistant Director of Student Activities. Responsibilities Specific Responsibilities Include:  Coordinate all aspects of FSU Homecoming with the Assistant Director including events, budget proposals, assessment tools, etc  Serve as a direct advisor to designated Directors within the Homecoming Executive Council, helping them execute their plans, manage budgets and implement initiatives  Attend weekly meetings (unless there are course conflicts) including the Homecoming Executive Council meetings, possible Homecoming Representative meetings, and Overall Homecoming Leadership Meetings  Facilitate one-on-one meetings with designated Directors (by-weekly or more)  Advise students on university policy, procedure and risk management techniques  Assist in the implementation of the entire week of events for Homecoming  Facilitate the event planning and permitting process for 600+ Recognized Student Organizations (RSO’s) and other campus organizations (Greek Life, SGA, etc.) on behalf of the Student Activities Center  Collaborate with Guest Services, Environmental Health & Safety, FSUPD, Office of Greek Life, Campus Recreation, etc. on event planning and permitting for student groups  Contribute to the coordination and facilitation of the event planning and permitting training and resource development  Assist with the implementation of Jimbo’s True Seminole Tailgates as needed  Represent the Student Activities Center in a professional and enthusiastic manner to students, staff, faculty and the general community  Have enhances knowledge of all Student Activities Center programs, initiatives, and operations, as well as Oglesby Union programs, initiatives, and operations  Have weekly one-on-one meetings with supervisor  Serve on university committees when applicable  Participate in professional development opportunities when possible  Attend a minimum of 20 office hours each week; attend all Student Activities Center meetings and programs regarding student organizations; attend Student Activities and Oglesby Union staff meetings when possible  Other duties as assigned
