SELECTIVE MEMORY Selective memory is what people call it. Psychiatrists like the phrase. But memory isn’t selective. What the doctors are talking about is lying.

Sometimes memory selects, but not to give you a choice. Something happens and there’s a line, an image, something sticky that adheres to the bank wall and stays with you until death, like a barnacle.
