January 2009 Dear Parents, Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all had a good Christmas break and enjoyed the festive period. The children return to another very busy Spring term with plenty of exciting themes being studied, visits planned and opportunities for parents to come into school. Thank you for your continuing support, Jenny Davies – Headteacher ***NEW STAFF**** We welcome Mr Andrew Walker as Deputy Headteacher of Offley Primary School and teacher of Year 2. ***PARENTAL HELP IN SCHOOL*** We are always grateful for help in school whether it be supporting pupils in the classroom, walking children to church, swimming etc or helping on visits. I do appreciate that many parents work fulltime and support the school in many other ways. However, if there are parents who do have a spare hour each week and could come into school we would welcome them. The practical curriculum we are developing would benefit so much if we had adults there to supervise and support pupils – this may be with experiments, art and craft activities, cookery, reading or making books. If you can offer fairly regular support please contact a senior member of staff (Mrs Davies, Mr Walker, Mrs Dean or Mr Sharpe). We would then make arrangements with class teachers. We will do our best to ensure that your time in school is an enjoyable experience for all! ***SCHOOL LUNCHES*** We are trialling a new method of ordering school lunches. The idea is to order the food the week it will be eaten rather than a week in advance. For this to work it relies on the order form being sent into school promptly as without the order form your child will not have a choice. You can of course send in the completed form for three weeks and this can be rolled over if you so wish (This would save you having to keep sending in forms but your child would not have the opportunity to change choices!). Please indicate on the form or speak to Mrs Richardson if you would like to roll the choices over on a three week basis. Like any method it will have ‘hiccups’ however we are trying really hard to work with CBS catering to ensure your child enjoys school meals. ***FRIENDS OF OFFLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL*** The school has now purchased a number of new reading books for the Infants and also new bookcases and boxes for storage. We hope your children will enjoy reading this new material. Also, digital cameras have been purchased for each class. This supports staff and pupils in recording evidence and developing ICT skills. Without your support for the FOPS equipment and resources would not be available for the children – THANK YOU!! ***CHARITY WORK*** Mrs Reid would like to thank all those who sent in crayons, pens etc. for her appeal to support a school in Africa. Your response was overwhelming and the first parcel went by plane hopefully to arrive for Christmas. An additional parcel is on its way by boat and we are hoping that we will receive acknowledgement at a later date. Thank you again. ***SCHOOL WEB-SITE*** The staff continue to work on developing the web-site. As you know this is a very time consuming task but we hope that you are finding the information on the site useful. N.B.
