March 2009 Dear Parents, We are well into the Spring Term and the children have been working really hard on some very interesting topics. I know from the Parent Assemblies that you are enjoying the work the children are doing and the progress they are making. Thank you for your continuing support, Jenny Davies – Headteacher ***RED NOSE DAY*** The children have asked if the school can take part in the ‘Red Nose Day’ fund-raising event again this year. Therefore, on Friday 13th March we will be asking everyone to come to school wearing red items of clothing and to bring along £1 which will be sent off to Comic Relief. This has been great fun in the past and I am sure we will have some humorous outfits again this year. Mrs Reid and Miss Burn will also be organising a cake stall – so any donations of small cakes would be gratefully received. Children can then bring along 20p to purchase cakes on the day. ***ASSEMBLIES FOR PARENTS*** Again the parent assemblies will take place this term. We thank you for your positive comments and hope that you will continue to find these a useful activity in informing you about your child’s education. Thurs 12th Mar. (Green Class) Fri 13th Mar. Unfortunately, Mrs Brady and Mrs Watson will not be able to hold parents’ meetings as above, due to illness. A time will be organised for you later in the term.
*** TASTING SESSIONS*** During the Parents’ Evening on Wednesday 11th March, there will be a school meal tasting session from 3.30 – 7.00 p.m. in the Infant School Hall. CBS catering will be offering a variety of examples for you to taste e.g. mild beef curry, pizza, meatballs, pork loin etc. They will also be on hand to discuss any concerns you may have. I do hope you take this opportunity to go along to enjoy the tasting and look at the menus etc.
***FRIENDS OF OFFLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL*** FOPS will be organising an Easter Bingo to be held on Thursday 2nd April. Tea, coffee and hot-cross buns will be available from 2.30 p.m. with the Bingo starting at 3.30 p.m. This will be open to all parents and pupils from Reception to Year 6 (all children will need to be with an adult). A letter will be sent out soon for you to indicate if you will be attending. Lots of chocolate as prizes!!! The Summer Fair will be held on Friday 10th July at 6.00 p.m. We hope to build on the excellent event organised last year when many families enjoyed a lovely evening together. We are looking to make this an even bigger event this year so if you have any ideas, or you feel you will be able to help, please contact school. Without your support for the FOPS, equipment and resources would not be available for the children – THANK YOU!! ***USE OF THE INTERNET*** I have been asked to remind you that some children have not returned their use of the internet permission form. Could these please be returned as soon as possible as their access may be restricted in the future. If you need another copy please contact the school office. Also, I have had to speak to pupils recently about their involvement in a chain letter. This has been revealing children’s personal e-mail addresses. Please note :- This has NOT been on the secure School Learning Platform which is provided for pupils. The school continues to make children aware of the potential dangers of communication over the internet and we hope that this can be reenforced at home. ***SCHOOL WEB-SITE*** The staff continue to work on developing the web-site. As you know this is a very time consuming task but we hope that you are finding the information on the site useful. N.B.
