Dear Parents, I hope you all enjoyed the Easter break. The summer term will be very busy for everyone and I know there are a number of exciting activities planned for in school. Once again we are holding assemblies for parents, a Music Evening, Sports Day, an Open Day for parents and of course the children will also be preparing end of year productions. I hope you will all be involved in these activities. Thank you for your continuing support, Yours sincerely, Jenny Davies. ***FRIENDS OF OFFLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL*** The FOPS association organised a very successful Easter Bingo for both Infant and Junior pupils at the end of last term. I know all those that attended had a super time and plenty of chocolate eggs to eat! A big thank you to all those who helped organise the event and all the families that attended. You raised nearly £500. The next planned event is the Summer Fair to be held on Friday 10th July. The FOPS association are looking for ideas to make this an even greater success than last year. If you have any fun ideas, please let us know, as we would be very grateful for any support it making this an exciting, entertaining evening for all and a opportunity to raise funds for the whole school. There will be a wear ‘Red, White and Blue’ day held on Friday 3rd July in return for a bottle for the tombola stall. The school is very grateful for the support from the FOPS. School budgets are extremely limited and the funds we receive from your support of events is so valuable in providing extra equipment for the children. All classes now have their own digital camera, £2,500’s worth of reading books have been purchased to enhance provision for KS1 pupils and another £1,500 has been given to enhance KS2 reading material. The FOPS group have also agreed to contribute towards transport costs of all educational visits this term to reduce the expense to parents. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.

***OPEN DAY*** There will be an Open Day for all parents on Tuesday 23rd June. This will be a time for parents to see the school in action between 10.45 a.m. – 12.00 noon and 1.00 – 3.00 p.m. We hope that you will be able to come along and join in some of the activities planned with your child. ***ASSEMBLIES FOR PARENTS*** Again the parent assemblies will take place next half-term. We thank you for your positive comments and hope that you will continue to find these an informative and useful activity in informing you about your child’s education. ***London Marathon*** Well done, Mrs Hutchins for completing the London Marathon in under 5 hours! Thank you to everyone who has supported the fundraising events organised around this. Final figures are not yet known but I know that Asthma UK is an important charity and will be grateful for all the efforts made. ***Staffing Up-date*** Mrs Wallace resigned from her post at the end of last term to spent more time with her family. We wish her well.

***How to help you child with Writing*** Progress in writing remains a national issue for primary pupils and Offley Primary, like many schools, has made this a key focus for development this year. The ability to compose interesting material for the reader, in a variety of genre, is a demanding skill for all ages. We have introduced a number of strategies, which we believe are making a difference, so we will be holding a Meeting for Parents at 7.00 p.m. on Wednesday 10th June to share these strategies with you. Mr Walker (Deputy Head and Literacy Co-ordinator) will lead a talk and workshop which hopefully will give you ideas of how to support your child at home.

***Music Evening*** It is time for another entertaining Music Evening on 20th May. Last year’s performance was a great success and show-cased the musical skills of numerous pupils and parents. To make an evening like this successful we need volunteers. I am sure there are many budding musicians out there. If you can sing, play an instrument or belong to a band please sign up for this event. You all should have received a letter from Mrs Dean (Assistant Head) giving details. We have a number of pupils wanting to take part but we hope we can make this a real family evening so, come on parents, let us share your talents. Who needs ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ when we have Offley!!! ***Class Photographs*** The school photographer will be in school on Friday 22nd May to take whole class group photographs. These will be on sale early in June as a momento. ***Parent Partnership Workshops*** Spending time with your child is the most important way of increasing their achievements in education. All the schools in Sandbach are together supported by the Local Authority looking at ways to involve parents and provide opportunities for parents and children to spend time together learning a variety of skills. Mrs Dean has organised two workshops for Reception Parents who came into school to work alongside their child making puppets. Feedback was extremely positive and the room was full of laughter and enjoyment on both occasions. We hope to extend this through the school during the next academic year. ***Future Dates for Diary*** 20th May 8th June 10th June 22nd June 30th June 1st July 2nd July 7th July 8th July 10TH July 14th July 15th July
