“I try my hardest to live up to my name, it’s about paying that extra bit of attention to represent myself in the way that I represent my brand.” G Frsh, on the importance of staying fresh.

“Life. That’s what I’m influenced by. The music I make is a reflection of my surroundings. Exactly that.” Ghetts.

“You can hear assets of our music in their music just as you can hear assets of their music in our music. It’s share and share alike, it’s got to that point now where, it’s actually at a stage where we’re all recognising each other. That gap is being bridged.” Mic Righteous, on US vs UK.

“A lot of the “urban” or whatever they call us we’re maybe the first generation kids that are here, our parents are from elsewhere so we grew up listening to many things. That’s why a lot of the people from my generation are ten pole specialists they’ve grown up listening to everything.” Ghetts.

“English Frank, Krept and Konan, K Koke and myself.” Mic Righteous, on his top 5 current UK rappers.

“I just try and connect the lines. I try and make the first line connect in some way with the next line and the line after, so the whole verse will connect. It’s a bit of a weird way of thinking. Sometimes I go too over the top but it’s just me trying to be out of the box man.” Wretch 32, on metaphors. “Write from the heart. That way it’s honest. And when it’s honest, it can connect with people and they’ll feel that it’s from the heart and that it’s real.” Wretch 32, on writing lyrics.

“The grime scene is like a stamp of the UK. It’s our sound that we kind of created and it’s how “Everyone has there own opinion it developed over the years, and presentation. MNEK

INTRODUCES...

“A BIG, FAT LISTENING EXPERIENCE” Straight from school and into the recording studio, we introduce MNEK - the 16 year old singer, songwriter and producer from London. This kid makes beats that are big, melodies that are infectious and songs that are busy. Raised on a musical diet that was influenced by dad’s love of Bob Marley and new jack swing and mum’s love for the big voiced diva’s like Mariah and Whitney, MNEK’s brand of pop music pays salute to these sounds but takes on a life of it’s own. You can usually find the 16 year old multitasking musician up in the studio working with the likes of Charlie XCX, The Wanted, Rizzle Kicks, Dragonette, Claire Maguire, A*M*E and Oh My!... The list goes on. A lot. Or you can find him “skankin on your mum’s grave” as his twitter says. As a remixing G he has caught the attention and praise for his take on a heap of tunes, including one by Frankmusik, CocknBullKid, Graffiti6 and Tinie Tempah who also happens to be quite the fan. On the writing front, it doesn’t get much bigger than working alongside Xenomania – most recently on The Saturdays single All Fired Up”. He’s even caught the ear of Kelis with his Stunting On These Hoes beat and Nike who have featured Lunar Riddim (created by Nathan Retro and MNEK) in a televised campaign. Describing himself as the “anti-teen popstar”, MNEK’s sound reflects him in every way. You can almost hear the bright retro specs, the big fat gold chains and the hi-top hair cut in every vocal and sound effect. So don’t be a fool, go and check out the video for MNEK’s banger “If Truth Be Told”. GO! NOW!

Bartoven - ‘Fall Off’ Lyrics One time, One time for me If you’re tryna chase your dreams One time, one time If you try too hard VERSE 1:

So

many up and comings think that they’ve made it, So many underdogs think that they’re A-List, Saying that they’re the best, tryna make statements, And they aint even gone through the main stages, Save it! Gracious! Ask Craig David, There’s a rise and fall ‘cause now Craig aint s**t, People are like Bart I wanna trade places, ‘Cause your fame came quick, They don’t know fame is, Fame is...walking with your bodyguards, be cautious, Because you’ll get followed by paparazzi stalkers, And followed by all these die hard supporters So you spend your time signing autographs the thought of its awkwards, ‘Cause just the other day you were a fan, Of somebody bigger so now you kind of understand, So right now everyone’s like hip hooray, But soon all I’m gonna hear is sh*t you’ve changed!

PRE-CHORUS

PG 38

But, If only you knew about the battle, Then maybe you could see it all from a different angle, I work like a slave just to eat like a king, go to sleep, and I still wake up with my shackles, Mummy I know what you wanted me to be, But this is my life and it just wernt me I know it might seem like....I’ve been running away, but I’m chasing my dreams....

CHORUS

I don’t wanna think I’ve made it, I don’t wanna think I’m close, I just wanna make my music and watch my fanbase grow, But if I fall off, If I fall off will you remember me? I don’t wanna think I’ve made it, I don’t wanna think I’m near, What if you find someone better next year, And I fall off, If I fall off will you remember me?

VERSE 2:

Don’t you remember me? I was the fella with the hightop, Every time they say they don’t remember me I’m like ‘what?’, I had the bars and the melodies on tight lock, These ‘20 guys could never be what I was! He squinted at me, Took a closer look and then reached in to grab he’s phone to look at a picture and started thinking ‘Actually...I think I have, Wasn’t it you that made that Funky song with Da’Batch? and ‘Lust or Love’?, bruv your buzz was so strong!, but you just didn’t follow up, You made a Dance song and I was like ‘Uh oh just when I thought he’d become big, He went and done this’ You sent me inboxes and I didn’t share ‘em, But now I wish I did ‘cause it could have made you historic, My little sis loved the songs you made, I hate to say it, but believe it or not you’ve changed!

PRE-CHORUS CHORUS

BRIDGE I don’t mean to disturb, but I’ve lost my direction, Please show me the way to the road of redemption, Tell the record labels to lighten my sentence, My sen..tence sen..tence sen.. tence, Let me be free, be me

CHORUS I don’t wanna think I’ve made it, I don’t wanna think I’m close, I just wanna make my music and watch my fanbase grow, But if I fall off, If I fall off will you remember me? I don’t wanna think I’ve made it, I don’t wanna think I’m near, What if you find someone better next year, And I fall off, If I fall off will you PG 39 remember me?

KEN KOFI HEY, IT’S A LITTLE EMBARRASSING BUT I’M 16 AND I HAVEN’T GOT GENITAL HAIRS YET. AM I NORMAL? BECKY, 16, SURREY Count your lucky stars. You’d be surprised at how much money ladies spend on hair removal treatments. If that doesn’t make you feel any better, try looking into getting a special weave made. They work wonders these days. You could go for the glamorous Beyonce weave or the Amy Winehouse beehive look. Just a suggestion. MY BOYFRIEND KEEPS MAKING FAT JOKES AIMED AT ME I THINK HE’S BECOMING LESS ATTRACTED TO ME. SHOULD I GO ON A DIET? MARIE, 18, BRIGHTON Are his jokes any good? I love fat jokes. Erm, I mean, tell him to do one. Diet if YOU want to, not because your caveman of a boyfriend drops hints. Find yourself a new guy – one who likes a bit of jelly with his ice cream. HELLO. I’M DOING MY GCSE’S AND I’M THINKING OF DROPPING OUT. I FIND EDUCATION SO BORING. I HAVEN’T TOLD MY PARENTS. PLEASE HELP ME. MEGAN, 15, ESSEX You are 15, child. Legally, you can’t leave school before 16. You’re parents could be taken to court and fined extensively. So yeah, maybe it’s a good idea. helppp! i’ve got loads of spots but i’m too embarrassed to go to the doctors what can do? lucy, 14, hayes Well, it kind of depends where the spots are. We suggest cleaning yourself more. That usually helps. Failing that, get popping. HI, I’M REALLY WORRIED THAT MY BOOBS AREN’T GROWING. I’VE BEEN AN A CUP FOREVER, EVERYONE ELSE’S ARE BIGGER THAT MINE. WHAT DO I DO? CHLOE, 17, CARDIFF Pop into your local butcher or supermarket and buy a pair of chicken breasts. Don’t be alarmed by the cold meaty feeling, they will warm up pretty quickly once you pop them into your bra. They feel realistic but make sure you get a matching pair to keep it looking as even as possible. However, this will only last about an hour – less on a hot day – before you start PG 43 to smell like poultry. Cooking after use is not recommended.
