31st ISME World Conference on Music Education 20–25 July 2014 Porto Alegre, Brazil


The 2014 ISME World Conference will be held in Porto Alegre, Brazil 20-25 July 2014. The Conference Organizing Committee invites musical ensembles of all music genres to submit applications to perform during the Conference.

PURPOSE The purpose of the 31st ISME World Conference 2014 is to foster global understanding and cooperation among the world's music educators, by strengthening ties and sharing ideas about different aspects and issues within music education, in way that promote music education for people of all ages throughout the world. The Conference will have relevance for school and studio music teachers, university academics, music researchers, students of music, and other interested parts across all areas of music and music education.

APPLICATION Applicants are required to prepare an unedited high-quality electronic recording (video clip), uploaded onto YouTube or other website facility of a performance during the 2013 year of application. REQUIREMENTS Directors of selected groups, or at least one person from each performance group must be members of ISME at the time of acceptance and at the time of performance during the ISME World Conference. Groups selected to perform assume responsibility for all financial arrangements to support the group’s expenses. NOTE: Individual requests for performance times cannot be granted. Selected groups must be available to perform at the times assigned.

SELECTION PROCESS The deadline for applications to the 31th ISME World Conference is 30th August 2013. In order to avoid a last minute rush, we ask you to submit your applications as soon as possible. All applications will be screened/listened to by the Performance Selection Committee of ISME 2014. Successful participants will be notified by 15th October 2013.

SELECTION CRITERIA The selection of Performing Groups will be made in accordance with ISME policies on musical and cultural diversity, and aims to offer delegates the opportunity to broaden their musical experience. The number of local and international performing groups selected depends not only on their quality, but on available venues and performance opportunities. Priority will be given to demonstrably high standard amateur groups, young/learning performers and groups working in, or emerging from, an educational context. Selection of the groups will be based, according to the aims of the conference, on high standards, diversity of repertoire and geographical representation.

VISAS TO ENTER BRAZIL Please check with your travel agent if visas are required to enter Brazil. Disclaimer: As requirements may differ from country to country, it is important that the Director should check details as soon as possible. Although ISME will do its best to assist, neither ISME nor the Local Organizing Committee can be held responsible for visas not granted by the Brazil Embassy in your country.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS ISME has contracted international specialist music and arts performing groups travel organizer as the sole and exclusive approved service provider for ISME Performing Groups. The company will offer to secure travel on commercially reasonable terms for each Performing Group to and from the ISME World Conference 2014, including, but not limited to: taking reservations, providing professional travel advice, confirming itineraries, booking travel, taking payment, accommodation bookings, confirming and making changes as required and issuing invoices. Use of this service is optional to Performing Groups.
