At the ISME World Conference in Tenerife, the ISME Board approved three Focus Groups to become ISME Standing Committees. It is intended that these Standing Committees will ensure continuity and stability within some important areas of ISME. They are: A. ADVOCACY STANDING COMMITTEE: Chair: Carolynn Lindeman B. CONFERENCES STANDING COMMITTEE: Chair: Caroline van Niekerk. C. PUBLICATIONS STANDING COMMITTEE: Chair: Wendy Sims News and progress will be reported at regular intervals. -------------------------------------2. KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - ISME 2006: The new ISME Conferences Standing Committee Chair, Caroline van Niekerk and I made a site visit to Kuala Lumpur recently. We were very impressed with the whole visit and encourage you all to start making plans to attend ISME 2006. The Conference Organizing Group (COG) Chair, is Ramona Tahir. Ramona is highly efficient and has assembled an enthusiastic team as her COG (Conferences Organizing Group). You will be introduced to them over the next few months, and regular news and updates will be sent out via these Postcards and placed on the website. The link for your address book is: THEME: ISME 2006 is using the word "SENTUHAN" which "transcends cultural barriers and racial barriers as it reaches out to 'touch' and be 'felt' by all. Sentuhan explains the crucial role that music plays in human life, the importance of music education, and Malaysia reaching out to 'touch' the world in the uniquely Malaysian way". ----------------------------------------------------3. Education of the Professional Musician (CEPROM): Michael Hannan (Australia) 5. Music in Cultural, Educational and Mass Media Policies: Chi Cheun Leung (Hong Kong) 6. Music in Schools and Teacher Education (MISTEC): Marvelene Moore (USA) 7. Music in Special Education: Manuela Prause (Germany) ----------------------------------------------------4. SPECIAL INTEREST AREAS If you are particularly interested in one of the special interest areas covered by the above seven Commissions, or if you are interested in other interest areas, you will receive information specifically about these if you have ticked the boxes on the membership application form. You can add or amend the information about your areas of interest on the website by logging on and then going to: Look for the part called: "Edit Your Details" a) Scroll down until you see the yellow section b) Tick the boxes showing your interest/s c) Click on "Submit new information" If you have problems logging on to the website, please do not hesitate to contact the ISME Office (Judy or Jo-anne). IMC INTERNATIONAL MUSIC PRIZE ISME has received notice of the 2004 recipient of this prestigious prize: Youssou N'Dour World Music artist from Dakar/Senegal The award will be presented in Aachen on Thursday 28 October 2004. Other recipients of this prize, which was instigated by Yehudi Menuhin and first awarded in 1975 have been awarded to composers, soloists, institutions, musicology/research and music educators. Only 3 awards have been made for music education and they were to: 1979: Nadia Boulanger (France) 1994: I Made Bandem (Indonesia) 1997: Sir Frank Callaway (Australia) In 1998 the Khongisa Youth Centre for the Performing Arts, Music and Theatre from South Africa - they were involved at ISME 1998 in Pretoria.

ASME - Calls for Papers - July 2005: ISME National Affiliate for Australia - ASME: The Australian Society for Music Education (ASME) XV National Conference will be held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia from Sunday 3 to Thursday 7 July 2005.
