"Sound Worlds to Discover" XXVI World Conference for Music Education 11-16 July, 2004 Most of us who attended this special 50th Anniversary Conference are now safely back home. Some were able also to be at the ISME Commissions pre-conference seminars. Delegates are invited to send in their impressions and highlights - up to 50 words each. More reports on the Conference to come, but as a start, here are a few photos: http://www.isme.org/article/articleview/311/1/3/ ISME History: "Toward a Global Community: The International Society for Music Education 1953-2003" by Marie McCarthy. As those of you know, who attended the Conference, the sad story about the 24 cartons of these important books, which were sent to Tenerife to be launched at this 50th Anniversary Conference, is that the customs authorities in Madrid decided to keep the books and would not release them to Tenerife. Many efforts were made to get them there during the Conference week. I intend documenting the story of the books, which you may read on the website at some time in the future, as it is quite an unbelievable series of events.

As soon as possible, members will be mailed their copy - they may take a while as they will be sent by the slowest mail, but you will receive your copy - if you were a current member at the time of the ISME Conference in Tenerife. -------------------------------------2. INTERNATIONAL MUSIC DAY - 1st October Traditionally, the International Music Council (IMC) and the international music community have celebrated October 1 as the "International Music Day". This day, was initiated by past IMC President, the late Lord Yehudi Menuhin in 1975 to encourage the promotion of musical art among all sections of society, particularly by raising an awareness of the role of music and musicians in a globalised world. We would like to invite you to join in the celebration of the International Music Day (IMD) 2004 with music activities (concerts, recitals, workshops, competitions, master-classes, seminars, conferences, festivals, fairs etc...) in your country and thus to promote the ideals of the International Music Day worldwide. -------------------------------------6. International Day of Choral Singing From Europa Cantat: Eskil Hemberg, president of the International Federation of Choral Music, passed away in June. It was decided to dedicate the International Day of Choral Singing to his memory and you can all participate. If you are planning a Christmas concert, why not schedule it on December 12th, the International Day of Choral Singing, and dedicate it to Eskil Hemberg? You will find more information about this idea on our new website under http://www.EuropaCantat.org -> news. Please let us know as soon as possible, at the latest on September 15th 2004, if you and your choir will schedule a concert on December 12th so that we can list it in the autumn issue of our ECmagazine.
