New from OECD Publishing

The Nordic co-operation is one of the world’s most extensive forms of regional collaboration, involving Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland.

NORDEN

These countries together form the Nordic region – Norden – which comprises approximately 26 million people. Combined the GDPs of the countries make the region’s economy the 12th largest in the world. The parliamentary co-operation in the region began in 1952 and was expanded in 1971 with the body for intergovernmental co-operation, the Nordic Council of Ministers. The Nordic co-operation has firm traditions in politics, the economy, and culture. It plays an important role in European and international collaboration, and aims at creating a strong Nordic community in a strong Europe. The Nordic co-operation seeks to safeguard Nordic and regional interests and principles in the global community. Common Nordic values help the region solidify its position as one of the world’s most innovative and competitive. Nordic publications play a key role as the outcome of the many projects and activities fostered and financed by the Nordic co-operation. Being primarily research-based analyses the publications form the basis for political decisions in the Nordic co-operation. Every year around 100 new Nordic titles are published, approximately 65% of which are in English. They cover all the subjects that are part of the Nordic co-operation, with particular focus on: climate and environmental studies, green growth and bioeconomy, sustainable development, health and social welfare, education and research, labour and employment and the Arctic. These publications are now available online in the single research repository, Norden iLibrary www.norden-ilibrary.org. Titles are organised by series, year and alphabetically, and search and discovery of complete publications or even their components – articles and chapters – is a click away. The content is accessible in different formats – PDF, ePub and READ – to meet users’ needs, whether for reading on a mobile device, sharing with peers via social networks or integrating content in a report. The Norden iLibrary has been developed in partnership with OECD Publishing and the OECD iLibrary.

2

www.norden-ilibrary.org As of October 2015, The Norden iLibrary features more than 800 publications available in READ and PDF formats going back to 2005. In terms of topics covered, the collection includes more than 120 titles on agriculture and food, more than 70 titles on development, more than 50 titles on economics, more than 70 in education, more than 90 in employment, more than 400 in environment, more than 120 in governance, more than 90 in industry and services, more than 180 in social affairs, migration and health, more than 70 in trade and others in Science and Technology, Trade, Energy, Transport, Finance and Investment and Urban, Rural and Regional development.

As is the case with titles in the OECD iLibrary, each content item or component is assigned a DOI and static URL. Integrated search results show all available formats. Related content is only a click away, as are links to previous editions of serial publications. Users can navigate back and forth using hierarchical “breadcrumb” trails. Bibliographic records are available in MARC21 XML format. Counter release 4 usage data will be available for all content. RSS feeds are available as is Athens/Shibboleth federated authentication for the US and the UK. All Norden metadata and full text are indexed by the four major discovery services Ebsco EDS, Ex Libris Primo, ProQuest Summon and OCLC WorldCat.

The Commonwealth

New from OECD Publishing

The Commonwealth is one of the world’s oldest political associations of states. Its roots go back to the British Empire when some countries were ruled directly or indirectly by Britain. Some of these countries became self-governing while retaining Britain’s monarch as Head of State. They formed the British Commonwealth of Nations. In 1949 the association we know today – The Commonwealth – came into being. Since then, independent countries from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Pacific have joined. The Commonwealth. Membership today is based on free and equal voluntary co-operation. There are currently 53 independent countries. The last two countries to join The Commonwealth Rwanda and Mozambique - have no historical ties to the British Empire. The Commonwealth includes some of the world’s largest, smallest, richest and poorest countries, spanning five regions. Thirty-one of its members are small states, many of them island nations. It is home to 2.2 billion citizens and over 60% of these are under the age of 30. The Commonwealth publications communicate the results of the Commonwealth’s work in member countries. The publications, of which there are around 30 a year, particularly interest policy-makers, government staff, NGOs, practitioners, academics, schools and libraries. They also have significant appeal to anyone interested in learning about the Commonwealth and the work of the Secretariat. The material produced covers policy issues, case studies and good practice promotion in areas of Commonwealth expertise, including globalisation and multilateral trade issues, export and enterprise development, education, gender, public service management and reform, law and human rights, and issues of concern to small states. Commonwealth also produce a number of reference manuals in conjunction with commercial publishers, such as the Ministers Reference Book and The Commonwealth Yearbook. The Commonwealth iLibrary has been developed in partnership with OECD Publishing and the OECD iLibrary.

OECD iLibrary

OECD Subscription Products Today, the vast majority of those reading OECD publications are reading them online, many through our online platform, the OECD iLibrary, which is widely made available to users at academic institutions, government agencies, and think tanks by their libraries. Of course, print subscriptions to OECD periodicals and annuals are still available, but they now also include online access, should libraries clients want to offer this service their users or should other customers wish to take advantage of online features - such as clickable Statlinks tables in the online version and the and availability of related statistical tables in various formats. Customers can choose to subscribe to the entire OECD iLibrary, or just to segments of it, according to their needs.

OECD iLibrary The OECD iLibrary is the research repository gathering all OECD books, papers, and databases and data tables onto a single platform, through which they can be discovered and viewed. The OECD iLibrary is made available on a subscription basis; institutions subscribe and make it available to users within their specified IP range and/or username/password. Institutions can choose between “Online” option under which they receive access to the various online versions as well as to a repository of annual snapshots of included databases, or “Online + Print”, under which they receive online access, access to the archival CSV database snapshot files, as well as one copy of each new print publication that comes out during the subscription period. Institutions can choose to subscribe to the entire library, to everything on a theme, or to individual periodicals, statistical annuals or databases. In addition, all working papers and policy papers are available online.

8

www.oecd-ilibrary.org

OECD iLibrary Thematic Subscriptions Subscriptions to OECD iLibrary themes include access not only to all the relevant books published since 1998 (and in some cases even earlier) in the theme, but also to related periodicals, annuals, statistical databases and tables, as well as statistical data archive files. In addition all working papers and policy papers are made available regardless of the theme subscribed. As is the case with the full OECD iLibrary, institutions can choose Online or Online + Print. Online + Print includes online access to all books (READ, PDF as well as ePUB and WEB where available), periodicals (READ, PDF), tables (in XLS, PDF and HTML), and databases and their annual archive (CSV) plus one copy of each new print publication coming out during the subscription period. Online access includes online access to all books (READ, PDF as well as ePUB and WEB where available), periodicals (READ, PDF), tables (XLS, PDF and HTML), and databases with their annual archive files (CSV).

Online subscriptions to these periodicals include access through the OECD iLibrary to all issues since 1998, and in the case of the OECD Economic Outlook, OECD Economic Surveys, and OECD Observer, from the very first issues from the 1960s. Those choosing the Online + Print option receive print copies as well as online access to all available back issues. Online access normally is available through the OECD iLibrary several weeks before printed versions arrive. In the case of selected journals, articles are published online as they come available, without waiting for the full issue.

- In 2015, about two-thirds of the OECD population lives in cities, and in the next decade there are expected to be nearly 500 cities with more than 1 million inhabitants. Source: Governing the cities - While innovation can happen anywhere, it occurs especially in highly urbanised areas. Cities are thus essential drivers of a country’s potential for long-run economic growth. Source: The Metropolitan Century - Over the last decade, just 10% of regions in OECD countries accounted for an average 39% increase in overall employment and 42% of GDP growth. Source: OECD Regions at a Glance - In 2013, cities account for an estimated 67% of global energy use and 71% of global energyrelated CO2 emissions. Source: Green Growth in Cities
