CHRIS RYAN AND MARC ROBERT AT FAB AT BAR-TINI ULTRA LOUNGE

It was time to paint the town red, and that’s just what Nicky Boy, Sasha and I did as we made our way to Chris Ryan’s new Friday night party, FAB at Bar-tini Ultra Lounge. The party was Fun, Fabulous and Fierce - just the way I like it. It was filled with gay men who knew what they wanted in a party the minute they walked through the door. At FAB, they’ll definitely show you a real good time. Yes, Sir! And it’s true that the party had many LGBT professionals, young 20’s crowd, muscle-men, and everything in between. What more can you ask of a party?! DJ’ing at the party was music man himself, Steven Paul. He and several hosts including Cheyne Hauk, Frankie Fox, Brian Michael, David Michael, Kennedy Daniel Thomas, Matthew Ballew, Sean Mccannon, David Michael, Akash Abraham and Lady Jackson turned out the first two evenings and the venue was packed. Chris Ryan, thank you for a fun- filled evening. My guests loved your party - it was brilliant. Seen out: Shawn Paul Mazur, Art Gager, Josh Miller, Mikey Mo, Ethan Rothberg, Jesse Small, Matthew and Jeffrey Wachman, Scott Meilyk, Alex Grossman, Jovan S Hov, Brian Richards, Matthew Levine, Richie Z Friendley, Randall Scott, Jeff Proctor, Chad Simpson, Joe Mode, Anthony Dippolito, Michael J. D. Warner, Jt Malin and the sexy, Marc Robert. It was time to make a move so my guests and I made our way up to Brandon Voss’s Berlin at Providence Nightclub. Upon entering, we chatted with the one and only Markus Kelle...Diva of the Door. My guests were taken by the Diva, how could they not be? It’s Markus! It was a pleasure seeing the ever- so-stylish and graceful Patrick Day.

FRANKIE C AT NYY STEAKHOUSE

It was like home week running into Jeff Eason. You know, he’s the man who swept all three nightlife awards in 2013 for Best Photographer... yes, him! Right after, we saw Geronimo, the dancer who won the first Odyssey Award and the last HX Award for Best GoGo Boy. He and the very sexy Alexander Maravilla …love them nips, Mr. Alex. They work a box and the room like no other. Floating about the house were Epiphany and Maddelynn Hatter who turned heads as they glided about like gazelles through the night. And when a gay person thinks of a carrot, only one person comes to mind, and that’s the one and only Lady Bunny. She worked her set in the Burlesk Basement and entertained the room of party goers who carried on all night long. The man who’s been working his magic throughout the years turned out the Main Dance Floor and, yes, that’s Mr. Johnny Dynell. He spun as bottles popped, hot men steamed up the floor and hot boys ran about being sexy and silly. And now the fun room – yes, the Dark Room where Cokcyboys performed a live show to the deep hot beats spun by DJ Cazwell. It “don’t get hotter” than this… trust me! The evening was hosted by Paige Turner, Joe Roszak, Lucio Abruzzi, Jonathan Nish, Chris Harder and Bobby LaSalle. Gay’s be on top...or bottom… of getting your tickets for RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Six Premiere Party on February 19th. More info and tickets: www.vossnyc.com It was time for a little Din-Din. Well actually, a big one with Michael Musto. He invited me to dine at NYY Steakhouse, and can I tell you, it was delish. Gays, if you’re into eating big, this is the place to do it. We started with a raw bar of fish…yes that swim in the sea, followed by a big piece of meat on a big bone. Mines read: “Hello”, and I’m talking about steak. Jeez, what’s a gay to do when expressing a meal... hahaha!Next, scrumptious desserts and coffee. We had great conversation throughout the meal with some very interesting people. They even gave us a tour of the space. It was lovely and very manly all at the same time. Thank you, Michael, it was another great night of fun, laughs and dinner… Muah! Happy Birthday: Will “Jackie O Bell, Brian “Peeps” Perri and Todd “Blanks” Skorupski, and Chris Harder. Best always, Frankie C.

WIGS THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF

BY SHERRY VINE I just returned from a glorious four days in Los Angeles. I LOVE LA! I know New Yorkers are always trash talking LA, but I do love it there. I fucking love NYC, but wish I could be bi-coastal more often. I arrived Thurs and had one hour to rehearse a whole show with pianist James Lent for our “unplugged” show at Revolver. I hadn’t been to Revolver in years (let’s just say the last time I was there it was a video bar!) but it’s back, and better than ever. I had so much fun hanging out with the super sweet and fun owner, Jeffrey, and the staff. The bar filled up right before show time and we let them have it. It was exciting to do my parodies in a different way - on key! lol- not! We did a torch rendition of “Shit My Pants” that was hilarious, and people were loving the show. Thanks, Revolver! The next morning, Jackie Beat picked me up at my hotel, Ramada West Hollywood (it’s in walking distance to everything I need since I don’tdrive), and we went wig shopping on Hollywood Blvd - one of my fave pastimes in LA! We ran into Morgan McMichaels in the wig shop and cackled trying on wigs and jewelry for a while. I live for this shop - big hair, cheap lashes, and always a laugh! Then Jackie and I met up with Candis Cayne and Mario Diaz in Korea town for a delicious lunch, Jackie’s treat! Hey, she’s a writer for “Hello Ross” on the E network, so she can afford edamame. After lunch, I left with Candis so she could show me her new house. Yes, people in LA own homes. And not just any house, a gorgeous 1928, old-school Hollywood home. It is my dream house! Lots of rooms and staircases and a touch of gothic, a massive mirror deco dining room table, a big back yard, hot tub - where do I sign up?? We sat and reminisced for hours before she had to drive me back to WeHo. I felt bad having everyone drive me around. Lol. I do have a valid driver’s license, just a little rusty! I guess it’s like riding a bike, but a car - whatev. Friday night I got a ride to Spit at Faultline for a little show and appearance. My dear friend, Paul V of Drag Strip was DJing and running the party. I’ve known Paul for almost 20 years, so I was happy to get to hang out with him and catch up. The party was a hoot. I love anything different than the same thing I see every night, so when I spotted the bear GoGo dancer, I was in heaven. It’s a great club; I was there once before for Mario’s

BIGNEWS:

party. The back club has a roof that opens, even though it was closed this night, so people can smoke. I’m not a fan of smoke in a club, but I like the feeling of people being able to do what they want in a club. It’s a club! I’m rambling because it’s so fucking cold out and I’m under the covers “writing” this and I took a Percocet and she just kicked in. On Sunday, Jackie and I had two shows at Casita del Campo. It’s a black box theatre in the basement of a Mexican Restaurant in Silverlake where Jackie and I have performed before, along with so many amazing artists in LA. Mr. Dan (aka Gina Lotriman, the other half of Drag Strip with Paul V) runs a tight ship, honey! Lol. Both shows were sold out - something new and exciting for me - and it really was the best time ever. The NY Times called Jackie and I “the Laurel and Hardy of drag”. No one is funnier than Jackie, no one. She is so fast and fearless that it really keeps me on my toes. After 22 years of performing together, she still surprises me. And I got to see so many people in the audience who I love and have known for decades. After the show, we got to catch up and have a giggle upstairs over chips, salsa and margaritas. FUN! Thanks, LA! My dear, dear friend and gorgeously talented artist, Tracy von Becker-Legge, curates shows at Chelsea Eye. Most recently, she pulled together a very successful show of art by Hedda Lettuce. Next up is “Return of The Space Caterpillar” by club vixen, Chip Cirrhosis. The event opens Feb 14 at 7pm; 157 W. 19th St. A percentage of sales goes to The Trevor Project Foundation. MAKING LOVE+SEXO BY R. DRECKER Bill Coleman knows a thing or two about giving clubbers what they want. As the founder of the hit music-making record label Peace Biscuit, he is the man behind sexified club icons Cazwell and Colton Ford and the lovely Amanda LePore. He is also the man who launched the career of vocal powerhouse Chris Willis, whose collaborations with David Guetta on “Love Is Gone”, “Just A Little More Love” and “Getting’ Over You” remain dance floor staples. In his thirty years in the music business, Coleman has worked with stars like Madonna, Beyoncé, Lenny Kravitz, and Donna Summer and represented some of the biggest DJs including Paul Oakenfold, NERVO, David Morales, Tony Moran, Frankie Knuckles and WAWA.  Soon, he’ll release his most ambitious project yet, LOVE + SEXO: A Peace Bisquit Compilation, featuring exclusives from Michelle Williams (of Destiny’s Child), Ultra Naté, Mya and the ever-soulful Angie Stone, among others. ODYSSEYMAGAZINE.NET • FEBRUARY 5–18, 2014

WHAT MAKES LOVE/SEXO SO SPECIAL?  Love/Sexo is chock full of artists we love and / or  have had the pleasure to work with over the years. It’s electro and housey and pop and dark and fun.  It’s sexy and disco and chunky but with a sense of humor. IT HAS A REALLY IMPRESSIVE LINE-UP. It’s a diverse crew that includes JD Samson and MEN, Michelle Williams (of Destiny’s Child), Jason Walker, Roxy, The Ones, Matt and Kim, Carmen Electra, Cazwell & Manila Luzon. Miss Lawrence, Amanda Lepore and Mya, MC Lyte, Neneh Cherry (with cirKus) and Angie Stone along with provocative visuals by New York auteur Marco Ovando.  THE ALBUM ALSO INTRODUCES SOME FAB NEW TALENT. Yes, it’s a global stew of future stars! There is Brazil’s It-kid Rodrigo Pitta, UK ragga-chatting favorite Feral is Kinky, Russian tech house duo Fagault & Marina, Belgian beatmaker Illskillz, Swedish jack of all trades RedTop, Poland’s pop remixers WAWA and NY’s own new diva in training, Kristin Cooke to name a few.

COULD YOU HAVE MADE LOVE/SEXO FIVE YEARS AGO? No. Love/Sexo definitely represents the times because we were able to work as a collective -  internationally, digitally, creating music and eye candy while supporting aural recycling from various sources, friends, family, talents and colleagues with no pressure. We’ve worked on this intermittently for the last couple of years. Besides a DJ Mix CD a couple of years ago, we’ve not released a commercial compilation in years, since “Consider This” with Pow Wow Records back in the early ‘90’s!  DID IT NEED TO BE A DOUBLE DISC ALBUM? Thankfully, we couldn’t fit all the greatness onto one disc!  WHEN DID YOU KNOW YOU HAD COMPLETED LOVE/SEXO? It’s like baking a cake. You know when it’s ready to serve. The last few months have been all about getting the icing just right. Hopefully we will now find folks who want more than one slice!  Visit PeaceBiscuit.com

THE DISH THE QUARTER

thequarternyc.com

BY PATRICK BRADLEY Everyone loves a good neighborhood joint. For me, that place is The Quarter—located in the heart of the West Village, on Hudson and West 10th Street. I’d been going to The Quarter since it opened in early 2012, and it’s where—believe it or not—I’d had my first eggs Benedict. For me, The Quarter makes for the ideal neighborhood restaurant because 1. The food is always reliably good, and 2. I’m always warmly welcomed (by name) by owners, Hakan Aktas and T. J. Gulmez, or by one of the lovely front-of-house ladies. And as of late, I’ve also gotten to know some of the neighborhood locals while enjoying my meal at the bar. Yet, with The Quarter’s recent expansion—stretching southward of its original nook—the once-secret spot is now attracting curious passersby. Recently, on a Sunday night, I headed toward the restaurant for what I’d expected would be a quiet dinner for two; but to my surprise, just after 9 p. m. the place was still bustling! Luckily, ‘Mr. Bradley’ (my better half) and I were able to scope out two seats at the center of the bar for which we’d quickly sprung. Ordering for both of us, I decided upon a bottle of their house champagne, Nicolas Feuillatte. After our bartender informed us of the evening’s specials, I placed an order for: chopstick shrimp tempura and Portuguese calamari, followed by the pan-seared salmon and risotto special. I’d tasted the shrimp tempura appetizer first, served with a sweet Thai chili sauce and garnished with sesame seeds and a touch of balsamic vinegar. The sizable, fresh-tasting shrimp was neither over-battered

nor over-fried—it was quite light, in fact and more reminiscent of grilled shrimp rather than of fried. And the appetizer delivered a satisfying, crackly crunch with each and every bite. Next, I tasted the Portuguese calamari, topped generously with spicy cherry peppers, fried sojouk sausage and served with fresh lemon halves and a yogurt-paprika dipping sauce. Using my fork to create “bitefuls” of the medley of Mediterranean delights, I found this “Portuguese-style” calamari to be most interesting. The sojouk and cherry peppers added two different levels of heat to the dish and the fried, yet un-battered sausage lent a third type of texture. And while I’d thoroughly enjoyed the spiciness of the cherry peppers, the yogurt sauce offered a bit of relief just when it was needed. Our next course arrived in due time and the pesto risotto with freshly-shaved parmigiano-reggiano and truffle oil exuded a blossoming aroma as it was placed on the bar before us. Lured by the sensual, earthy truffle scent, I tasted the risotto first and found it to be cooked to perfection and prudently “salted” by the parmigiano-reggiano. I consumed half of the risotto before turning attention to the pan-seared salmon with olive oil crushed fingerling potatoes and sautéed kale with bacon. The first thing I’d noticed about the salmon was the massive size of the filet—it easily could have served two, and left neither wanting. The fish, cooked to a perfect “very rare” per my request, sat delicately atop kale and potatoes (nearly hidden by the mammoth filet). As I’d done with the calamari, I carefully

arranged the three main elements of the dish atop my fork in order to experience the intended taste. The olive oil crushed potatoes were the perfect contrast for the fish and the sautéed kale was a good mediator between starch and flesh. And as with the cheese acting as salt in the risotto, restraint was again shown with the bacon-sautéed kale in which the bacon did not attempt to outshine the subtle flavors of the salmon. With just enough Feuillatte remaining in our bottle, Mr. Bradley and I decided on sharing the cheese plate for our final course. Laid upon black slate was a trio of “artisanal” cheeses including: shaved tête de moine; gorgonzola dulce delicately drizzled with truffle honey; and aged manchego topped with fresh dulce de membrillo. Ever since discovering tête de moine at The Quarter, it’s become one of my favorite cheeses! Manager, Kasey Orban explained to me that they use a girolle—an instrument which scrapes the top of the cheese in a circular motion—which creates thin shavings in the form of rosettes, thereby enhancing the flavor and aroma by allowing more oxygen to reach the surface of the cheese. Served with a small bowlful of sliced baguette, the cheese plate was the perfect ending to our meal which was somewhat heavier than either of us would normally eat. But really— resolutions are just for the first week of January, right? I could always try again for Chinese New Year.
